The New Breed of Celebrity

The Voices that Yell the Loudest Rise the Quickest?

To witness any moment of true crazy one simply has to go as far as Myspace.com or Youtube.com. Give the people a voice and it seems the loudest and most obnoxious tend to win.

That makes me wonder a bit, but I don't think that most of the Internet famous crazies have that 'lasting' power to really bring about more than a brief glimmer of fame, nothing truly tangible. The Cris Crocker's and Jeffree Stars of the world rely on shock value. ( Okay, yeah I'm intentionally ignoring the fact that they are both cross-dressers right now. They pull that off reasonably well, so I'm not faulting them at all for that.

One can respect the fact they both have risen to fame fairly quickly, and even the fact that one is only famous due to a breakdown on camera. Granted, Star has the whole creepy/ cute thing (which the concept is something I quite like, not him but the combo of creepy and cute.) Crocker, I can respect his devotion to a person, even if it's in the lovably insane stalker way. He was hellbent enough to make a fool of himself in order to defend a person who wasn't even aware of his existence.

All that all well and good, but it's far from anything that could be a lasting effect.

That's the main issue with anything/ anyone famous through shock value. The effort to stay famous tends to diminish when you aren't shocking anymore. For an example- Marilyn Manson. As soon as his shock value wore off, he shrank (figuratively of course). I actually bought his book and read it. I didn't like him much after that, he tried far too hard to be shocking.

It looks like the new breed of fame is going to rapidly follow the same. As soon as the 'next' crazy screams into their camera the last will be left in the dust.

At the very least, at least the doorway is relatively more accessible. Although one must wonder if the ones who are indeed rising and will rise are prepared for everything the lifestyle entails. Can they handle it?

That is a good thing, and something I appreciate. A good portion of people out there have something to say, and now they have their chance. (Just save the world ears and lower it a couple of decibels.) Most understand that the "general public" has a fascination with famous individuals, and are curious about the lives they lead. This writer for one (along with many other I'm sure) is just hoping that they can handle it. The paparazzi and media makes people, and will break them just as quickly.
