The Brew is Out There

Injecting a new reason for Australia's entry into the space race, astronomers have found the discovery of the century in a constellation just 10,000 light years away from earth.

The constellation Aquila is home to enough alcohol to make 450 trillion trillion schooners of beer.

Now that may sound like enough for the average Aussie BBQ but in fact Doctor's Macdonald and Habing of the University of Kent who found this reservoir state that the clouds contain enough alcohol to fill all the world's oceans tens of thousands of times over or in beer drinkers terms, there's enough alcohol to provide 300,000 pints of beer for every person alive on the Earth, every day, for the next billion years.

The University scientists stumbled on the alcohol cloud while studying star formations using a powerful telescope on Hawaii. By observing the characteristic spectra emitted by the molecules found in space they were surprised by the density and amount of alcohol in the cloud. Despite the fact they haven't actually had a sip they confirmed the existence of alcohol by identifying the specific radio frequencies.

At a temperature of 148C, they say while it may be warm for an interstellar cloud, it's very cold by normal bar standards.

Fear not beer drinkers, the future doesn't look as gloomy as portrayed in some Hollywood sci-fi films.
