The Brighter Side

Marshall Culpepper
Today, everyday life is filled with many challenges. Raising our kids, putting food on the table and fuel in our vehicles, these are daily activities that are becoming harder and harder to accomplish. We spend more time working and making less money. Our children are basically being raised by the low moral value of network and cable television. Families are being lost to political agendas. However there is a brighter side. Happiness can be found everywhere, even in these bleak times. I look into the eyes of my children, and I know that things will be OK. As long as my children are alive, I have reason to be happy.

I write this, have buried my father one week ago, tomorrow. Just nine months after my mother passed away. I find myself comforted in the fact that their struggle through life is over. A though road lies ahead for those that have lost, I cannot deny that. Over the next few years, I'm sure that there will be thousands of times that I will want to talk to my dad to seek his advice on raising my kids or guidance on my marriage. All that remains is the lingering and everlasting love that both my parents showed me. All the negative thoughts and bad memories fade away. It's not about what they didn't buy me, or didn't let me do. The only thing that matters is that I loved them, and they loved me in return.

Losing a member of your family isn't always a loss. When a loved one dies, their absolute best qualities remain. They are instilled into the lives of the people who shared in their life, and grieved over their passing. Their works live on by those that were served by those works, and you begin to realize that they were and are part of something much bigger than we can see. Their light will shine brightly, helping us through difficult and dark times. Their radiance will remain as a beacon, guiding us through life's challenges. Their souls will illuminate our paths and guide us to the brighter side of life.
