The Bro Lock: College Baskeball's Version of Voltron

A Salute to the Bench Players' 'Bro Lock'

The NCAA basketball tournament is a showcase of athleticism, determination, strategy and above all else, the transformation of macho, chest thumping 7 footers into demure, fanatical beauty queens hoping their name is not called as the 4th runner up. I am referring of course to the bench players 'bro lock' of support, usually on display in the final minutes of a close game. It is behavior better suited to the cheer squad. Let's face it, the bench itself is the only thing keeping them from forming a pyramid, but who's to say that united front of as yet unbroken dreams is not bestowing their teammates with extra speed or accuracy?

What I want to do is congratulate the first guy that turned to his teammate and said, 'hey you know what would be be a game changer here? Put your arm around mine'.

Of course no teammate could protest, at least not very much and that is thanks to Voltron. Anybody who's seen Voltron, and that's anybody who's anybody, understands the concept that interlocking separate bodies amplifies power exponentially and awesomeness to Chuck Norris levels.

It's amazing how closely the players follow the doctrine of Voltron during the course of the game. Every player cheers as best they can as individuals until the waning minutes of the game. Then, as victory seems to be slipping from their grasp they unite to defeat their foes with their greater team spirit. I guess really Voltron deserves some credit too. But I am thoroughly impressed every time I see those bench players dismissing all preconceptions of acceptable male behavior and locking arms to will those free throws to the bottom of the net. I salute you all.

Nicely written and good angle on the 'Bro Lock'.
