The Bronze Smokey Eye

The smokey eye makeup look is being completely reinvented for fall. Forget about the dark, moody, vamp inspired makeup. This season's smokey eye is every bit just as sultry, but a lot more playful, modern, and beautiful. You'll need a few great products to make this look a success, but here's how to get started.

Prep your eyes. Eye primer is a must when you want your eye makeup to last all day. Start by smoothing an eye primer, such as the Elizabeth Arden Advanced Fix Eye Primer , which brightens eyes, smooths eye lids, and helps your eye makeup go on better. Apply gently, with the tip of your pinky finger, to prevent pulling on the eyelid.

Highlight your lids. You'll need a soft, pearly colored eyeshadow to highlight your eyelids, such as NYX Ultimate Pearl Shadow #2. Gently press your shadow brush in the pearly eye shadow, and then press it onto your lids. You'll want to go from the crease of your upper lid to the brow bone. Also, place a dab in the inner corners of your eyes to brighten them.

Apply a neutral color. Next, you'll need to apply a flesh-toned .eyeshadow. Bobbi Brown's Eyeshadow Taupe One Size should work just right. Press this color on your lower lid anywhere that you don't have highlighter. Gently blend in the crease area so that the neutral color fades away into the highlighter shade.

Create a "V." Take a great golden or bronze shade of eyeshadow, like MAC's Frost Bronze and create a sideways "V." Start at the lash-line about midway across the eye, and blend towards the outer corner. Finish the "V" in the crease of your eye, connecting at the outside corner. Blend so that the outer corners of the eye are darker, and the inner corners are lighter and brighter. Line under the eye with the same bronze or golden color.

Line your eyes. Using a dark bronze liner, like Tarte SmolderEyes Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner, line your eyes. Stay as close to the lash line as possible, making the line thin towards the inner corners of the eyes. Make the line a little bit wider in the middle of the eye, and thin again towards the outer edge. For the most smoldering eye, smudge the liner and reapply. For fun, flick the outer edge of the eyeliner up just a bit, giving just the hint of a cat eye.

Finish with mascara. Finish with two or three coats of your favorite mascara. Mine is the tried and true Maybelline Great Lash Mascara. Wiggle the wand towards the base of your lash, hold for a second or two, and then slowly press your lashes up and away from your face as you drag the wand up over your lashes. This will give you extra lash coverage and curl your lashes, too.
