The Brother Posse Wins Again on Top Chef Las Vegas

Reality Rehash
Last weeks Top Chef saw not one but two chefs pack their kinves and go. Well actually Jesse didn't really get to pack her knives, she just went. The next day the brothers and their posse discussed the chefs who weren't talented. Of course they were included, along with the other Mike. Matin also felt the heat since he was in the bottom during the French round. Ashley also felt it, being in the botom yet again. She's missing her family and since her brother had baby we got to see a few tears from the usually more crazy Ashley. That was all we got for emotion though as the chefs headed into the Quickfire Challenge, ready for anything yet again.

Their guest chef for the show was Tim Love who liked to take unique approaches to cooking. The ingredient was chosen thanks to the fans and the winner was cactus. Um... never heard of anyone cooking with a cactus so this should be interesting. All they had to do was make something using the cactus and the winner would get $15,000 but no immunity. Everyone was then off to get their cooking on with some not having a clue what to do. Instead of using it as the "star" of the dish, some used it as a side ingredient. It was kind of weird as Padma and Tim were tasting. They seemed to like the more "weaker' chef's dishes while the chefs who usually excel had some strange faces. In the end Ash, Michael (haha!), and Ron were selected as the bottom three. The top three were then Laurine (what!?!?!), Mike I. and Matin. Somewhat surprising. The winner ended up being Mike, one of the brother posse members. Sadly they keep winning, and I hate it.

As always it was time for the elimination challenge, cooking lunch outdoors for cowboys. They could cook anything they wanted and their equipment would be "rustic". Before they headed to the ranch it was time for Whole Foods where everyone went loose, trying to find food they could cook without really having a full kitchen. It seems Laurine is set for the task while the brother posse proved their ego is almost as big as Jessie's from Big Brother 11. Yes... that big. Once they all checked out it was off to the ranch and there they realized they would be cooking in the sand. How fun! For us at least. They had to sleep in teepees overnight and their cooking equipment were four firepits. It seemed like most people enjoyed the camping atmosphere while Eli hated the fact that they had no electricity. Jenn didn't like it either, considering there were bugs. Half of the brother's, the more cocky one Michael, didn't feel comfortable in the desert and who know this could just knock him out.

The next morning all awoke to create their rustic lunch and things began to get hot. Everyone was cramped rnning around the firepits while they also had to fight for their pantry items. It seemed like they weren't skimping on the food even though they were in the middle of the desert. I'm not sure what Michael was thinking (the brother) but he wasn't cooking for the cowboys, but rather for his own taste. I don't think he gets the point of the challenge. Out on the grill Laurine was the only one using it and she wanted to make sure the food fit the eaters. Finally people started to use the grill last minute but by then the heat was ten times worse thanks tothe actual temperature that day. It came down to the last few seconds for most of the chefs and as Padma rang the dinner bell it was time to serve the cowboys.

Mike, Eli and Laurine were tasted first and after winning the Quick Fire nobody was really excited about Mike's dish. Laurine, who has proven herself this time around, was enojoyed by all. The flavor was there and she could take home a win this time. Eli's dish was similar to Mike's, not unique and nothing they really wanted on a ranch. Ash, Mattin and Robin were next with Matinn's dish getting spit out by Tom. Not looking good for Mattin if he does that. Robin's shrimp was next and was simply "terrible". I take back the Mattin comment.. they'll probably both be in the bottom. Ash saved the round though, luckily, as they all enjoyed part of it but still felt it was a bit greasy. So it was so so.

Bryan, Jenn and Ashley got their dishes served next with Bryan's dish being enjoyed by everyone and Gail even saying she'd go camping with him. Jenn's dish was creative, according to Gail but not to Tim Love. Although he did like it. Ashley was last up for the group and it was the best dish she's made so far, it's about time she doesn't go to the table. Last up we have cocky Mike, Ron and Kevin. Ron's dish was compared to Mattin's and was seen as a great improvement but his cocktail wasn't liked so much. Mike's dish was loved for it's taste and very unexpected while Kevin's dish was well cooked and that's all they really said. It was then back to the table for someone to leave and I'm guessing either Robin or Mattin will bite the dust.

While waiting for judge's table the chefs discussed how bad they smelled but Padma broke the tention by calling Laurine, Ashley, Bryan and cocky Michael to the table first. Yes... both brothers and two "weak chefs". They were selected as the favorite dishes and Ashley was glad to finally not be called in for being the worst. In the end the winning dish went to Bryan.... a brother but at least it was the better of the two. Now that they had the winners it was time for the bottom three to head in those called were Robin, Ron and Mattin. Robin didn't want to do a traditional barbeque and the judges didn't like that. They didn't like how the shrimp was cooked and Gail even felt she could have gotten sick from it. Mattin was happy with his dish and surprised to be in the bottom which surprised the judges and even made Tim Love sick. Then we have Ron who the judges put in the bottom because of his drink alone. His dish as well cooked but thanks to a drink, which Ron didn't even taste, he could be going home.

It seemed like it was between Mattin and Robin for going home. Because of the lack of edit Robin has had so far I can see Mattin going home. He had a ton of personal conffesionals this episode, and even the last, so it seems Mattin could be going home but we shall see if my prediction is correct. When the judges discussed they wre surprised that Mattin was clueless about his dish while they really didn't like Robin's dish. In the end my prediction was correct as Mattin was told to pack his knives and go. I'm getting good at this reality editing thing, maybe I'll try and predict them each week! If only I was right last season each and every time I guessed that (rather wanted) Leah to go home! Oh Debby Downer how I miss you... not really.
