Edward Cole is a corporate billionaire and Carter Chambers is a working class mechanic. They apparently have nothing in common, except that they end up in the same hospital room with the same outcome. Somehow, they become friends and create a bucket list of things to do before they 'kick the bucket'. In the end, they find joy and happiness and have a lot of fun along the way.
Sean Hayes - Plays Thomas, personal assistant to Mr. Cole
He is obviously the over-looked supporting star of this movie and I wanted to be him! Although predictably his corporate billionaire boss Mr. Cole, treats him like crap, worth noting, however is the sarcasm that he (actor Sean Hays) is able to develop within the character of Thomas. Thomas is able to very efficiently, yet indirectly return every belittling comment from his boss with wit and stability that his boss sorely lacks. Like I said, I wanted to be him, and I really wanted to see more of this character. This guy is also, cute and charming.
Jack Nicholson - Plays Edward Cole, Corporate billionaire terminally ill
I always find it hard to look at Jack. I know Hollywood says he is a timeless actor. But, when I have to pay good money to watch a movie, I would rather watch something profoundly beautiful. That being said, Jack does his usual facial humor and sarcastic predictable same ol' same ol'. I cannot comment much more about that, because you have seen this for years. He dies in the end and I would have rather paid to watch a prettier face, sorry Jack!
Morgan Freeman - Plays Charter Chambers, terminally ill
Mostly same as mentioned above about Jack, however with a bit less predictability. Luckily Morgan can morph into any script thrown his way, however this role had a striking likeness of Evan Almighty. I cannot comment further on Morgan Freeman out of respect for his profession, but I will say he dies in the end and Mr. Freeman does a nice job of acting along side Mr. Nicholson. I did not notice chemistry between the two characters, although at times it was funny, but I never lol!
Casting question:
What really bothered me about Mr. Freeman's character was the fact that he was playing an old guy that was going to die; yet his wife (of 25+ years) was very young and beautiful, Rowena King (Grey's Anatomy). Unbelievable only because Morgan's character was portrayed as being a working class mechanic, so it just begged the question: How did Charter Chambers score on such a young bride?
SO, IS THIS MOVIE WORTH SEEING?
That being said, the high mark for this movie is location, location, location. Once they busted out of the hospital (a half-hour later) and begin their adventures, we see beautiful scenery - and this movie is able to take you around the world in a half-an-hour. Although, I did think green-screen at one point.
I saw places that I love to dream about traveling to, yet I know I never will. It was nice to see the locations without the distractions of something being blown-up or being burned-down. Just beauty, clean and simple.
This movie is not just a chick flick, I would say any guy would enjoy this movie (it has Jack in it) and is a perfect date movie. Nothing too embarrassing to either person, and you will leave the movie with good feelings, I hope.
Be prepared for a bit of a tear at the end.
Nice Job to the Director - Rob Reiner (I had to add some of that) these guys are professionals and I'm just an amateur that pays $$ to see their flicks!
