The Bus Ride

Jesse took pride in herself, in that she had become a successful business woman, with no help from anyone, except for herself and her hardworking study practices. She worked full time while putting herself through college, due to the fact that she came from poor and often abusive beginnings. She had just landed a coveted career with a major international company, and her dreams were becoming reality.

Jesse awoke early, to prepare for her first day in her new career. She showered, put on her best suit dress, and made sure that she looked like a business executive, before venturing out the front door of her apartment house. After triple checking to ensure that she had everything with her that she needed, she stepped out of her apartment, and locked the door behind her.

Jesse lived in a 3rd story apartment, and made her way to the first floor. As she exited the building, she had a strange feeling that something bad was about to happen. She walked out into the parking lot where she knew she had parked her Jeep Cherokee, only to find that it was not there. She scoured the parking lot reluctantly, thinking maybe she was mistaken on where she had parked, but the Jeep was nowhere to be found.

Jesse really wanted to burst out into tears, because she felt that this could surely ruin her shining moment of her first day in her new career. She quickly called the police on her cell phone, to report her vehicle stolen, and then called a taxi service. The taxi service informed her that they were extremely busy and they could not have a car there for about an hour. She looked across her apartment complex parking lot, to the bus stop, and realized that she would have to rely on public transportation for her first day in her new career.

She reluctantly started making her way to the bus stop, when she heard a noise that sounded like air brakes. She looked up and realized that the bus was already at the bus stop, and she had to make a run for it. Running was no easy task in her best heels, but it had to be done. The bus stop was at least 50 feet away from her, when the bus shut it's doors and started to depart. Jesse yelled "Stop, Stop", to the bus driver, as she ran up beside the smelly bus. The smell of the exhaust made Jesse feel light headed, but she persisted and finally got the driver's attention. The bus stopped and Jesse entered and found a seat.

Many of the passengers on the bus looked so dirty, and the bus reeked of urine and stale booze, but Jesse tried to think positively, in hopes that the police would find her Jeep soon. She sat there on the bus, feeling exhausted, and anxiously waited for the bus to get her to her destination. As the bus pulled up the bus stop, she hurriedly exited the bus, and began looking for a nearby restroom, so that she could make sure that she still looked great. She found a restroom and discovered that she still looked like a million bucks, so she proceeded to walk down the street to her new place of employment.

As she entered her new office, everyone welcomed and greeted her with big smiles of sincerity. Her new boss walks in and shakes her hand, and says, "Good morning". Jesse smiled and replied, "It can only get better!". She explains her rough morning to her new boss and coworkers, and they seem very impressed that she still managed to get to work on time. She begins learning the ropes of her new career, as her cell phone rings. She answers the phone to hear the voice of a police officer, who tells her that they have found her vehicle and have arrested the thief who stole it.

Jesse thanks God for that bus stop, her new career, and the police officers who worked so quickly in finding her stolen vehicle. Her first day on the job went extremely well, and Jesse's career continued to advance. She will never forget the long, and smelly bus ride to work that morning, and has a new found respect for anyone who must ride in a public bus on a regular basis.
