What is startling about the new setup is they've all got yellow and green blood in them. All three men have played for the club and Deehan even had a brief spell as manager. In the case of Gunn and Crook they were both part of the team that finished third in the Premier League and beat Bayern Munich in that historic UEFA Cup tie. Incidentally, Butterworth was also part of that team. Therefore, what is clear is the new setup is very yellow and green, but also people who were part of one of the most successful Norwich City sides of all time.
Bryan Gunn may lack management experience, but I believe he more than makes up for this by the qualities he does bring to The table. Due to being head of the scouting operation he will have a strong knowledge of players. Gunn also brings with him a decent amount of contacts, which of course includes Sir Alex Ferguson. John Deehan has spent much of the last few years working in scouting, and most recently was employed by Birmingham City. Finally, Crook has a useful list of Australian youngsters. Now, if Ian Butterworth also joins the set up then he should bring with him a good knowledge of players in the lower leagues since he is currently employed by Hartlepool United. This all means that the player recruitment side of the business is already looking pretty good.
Another great thing about the new management team is they will all be desperate for Norwich to do well. Deehan and Crook both bring a wealth of coaching experience, and although it could be argued that neither is suited for the top job they will both be a big support to Gunn. In a way this could allow Gunn to concentrate on player recruitment, tactics and that all-important man management. Honestly, I think the board have made a very shrewd move in bringing back the Canary connection. They've also been very smart with offering contracts only until the end of the season. The only possible negative is the possibility of Gunn getting sacked and the fans turning against him. Now I can see that could happen, but I'm sure the board would be smart enough to move him upstairs. I think it is right that the club we all love is managed by people who love it as much as the fans.
