The Candy Man

What Will Santa Do?

Sue Nuckles
In the holy mythical Candyland
There lived a little fellow known as the Candy Man
The Candy Man stirred his sweetest batch
His candy so great he had no match

Something this night just was not right
The Candy Man was not as bright
As you and perhaps even me
And therefore he could not see

He checked his recipe
Ingredients one two three
And by the glowing firelight
Stirred his famous Chocolate Delight

Suddenly he heard familiar sound
That caused him to jump and look around
A visitor down the chimney came
And the Candy Man knew he was to blame

The visitor wore a suit of red
Ho Ho Ho the visitor said
A grin on his face that was so jolly
The Candy Man then knew his folly

Today was Christmas, how could he forget
His order he had not met
He had not made one candy cane
And that would be his greatest shame

To the Candy Man it was perfectly clear
Christmas comes but once a year
He must make his Christmas batch
Because Santa needs his favorite stash

Candy canes placed upon the Christmas tree
Of every child he went to see
Without the candy canes to prove his love
The bag of toys would be hard to shove

Down the chimney of every child
And his night would be so wild
The Candy Man hemmed and hawed
And worried that he would be named a fraud

Santa, he said with his head bowed,
To make your candy canes I am so proud
This night I made Chocolate Delights
But will they help you with your flight

Across the sky this stary night
And deliver the toys before daylight
With this Santa knew his plight
No candy canes was his greatest fright

But Santa came up with a plan
Which he told to the Candy Man
Candy canes need not be red and white
Chocolate Delight canes would be alright

The Candy Man finished his chocolate brew
He learned something that he never knew
Candy canes can be made from Chocolate Delights
And Santa would not miss his flight

So now it is perfectly clear
If on your tree there does appear
A Chocolate Delight shaped like a candy cane
Then you will know that Santa came

To your house to spread Christmas Cheer
Like he does every year
So open your heart and your door
And shout this message across every moor

The Candy Man is still the best bet
Do not worry do not fret
He made Chocolate Delight canes
To prove that Santa came

Although, I'm originally from Missouri approximately five years ago the unbearable cold of winter was enough. I packed up with my daughter, son-in-law, and grandkids and moved to sunny Florida. But, now,...   View profile
