The Carousel Ride

Major Jester

Excitement welled up as I approached

The carousel at the fair beckoned

As a six year old kid I could not wait

I ran to the line in a split second

You picked a swift steed

The best to your eyes,

And mounted the saddle

Ready for your fast ride

Then music began, tinny and sweet

Your mount sprang into action

And began its first rise

Joy on my face an instant reaction

As you rode in the circle

The band organ played

A Doppler effect repeated

My smile still displayed

Fast forward some five decades or so

A museum offers a chance to repeat

A carousel ride for this now old man

Another chance to say "That was sweet"

The music began, the ride started up

Goosebumps emerged, a tear in the eye

Emotions flowed forth

Memories came back of days gone by

Ah yes! Ol' Doppler! I'd about forgotten that. I love quality carousels. But then, I love quality just about anything...
