The participants are divided into two unique tribes, because Survivor: Nicaragua isn't just about survival of the fittest. This season it is the young vs. the old, or as I prefer to see it, youth vs. wisdom. The Espada tribe is a 10 member tribe of over 40. The ten members of the La Flor tribe are all under the age of 30.
Meet the members of the over 40 Espada (the spear) tribe:
Dan - 63, real estate executive, looks like a mob boss, nick name Mr. Connected, muscular guido, a potential Survivor in Nicaragua
Holly - 44, swim coach and rancher, never been away from home this long, doesn't strike me as one who will survive this challenge
Jane - 56, dog trainer, recognizes herself as an underdog coming into Survivor: Nicaragua, Southern woman who lives on a farm and isn't afraid to "kick some butt," a woman who doesn't mind a little dirt under her fingernails
Jill - 43, ER Doctor, considers herself well rounded and "the total package," seems a little too soft for the competition
Jimmy Johnson - 67, former coach of the Dallas Cowboys, bound to emerge as a leader of team Espada, doesn't expect to win but wants to ally with others to help them win
Jimmy T. - 48, commercial fisherman, confident and strong, definitely has the potential to be a strong contender
Marty - 48, technology executive, plans to rely heavily on wits and charm, but is also in great shape
Tyrone - 42, fire fighter captain, athletic and genuine
Wendy - 48, goat rancher, retired army officer/nurse, doesn't care for self-centered people which will include most of the members of La Flor tribe, considers herself nice, seems a little dingy
Yve - 41, homemaker, describes herself as resilient and determined, considers herself a survivor
Meet the members of the younger La Flor (the flower) tribe:
Alina - 23, art student at Cal State, wants to prove she is not just a pretty face, a ruthless competitor who is not to be trusted in Survivor: Nicaragua
Benry - 24, name comes from Ben Henry, club promoter, a player and competitor stuck on his own good looks, admits having a short fuse
Brenda - 27, former Miami Dolphins cheerleader, paddle board company owner, describes herself as "smart, sarcastic, and straight forward," looking to play Survivor season 21 "second by second"
Chase - 24, pro race car jackman, a nice Southern boy with great looks and charm
Jud - 21, student, surfer dude, thinks he is smart enough to out-wit his competitors
Kelly B. - 26, med student at UNC, outstanding physical and emotional strength, amputee who has competed in Ironman triathlons
Kelly S. - 20, nursing student at University of Hawaii; out to disprove her Barbie-girl image, but doesn't mind flirting to get ahead in the Survivor: Nicaragua competition
NaOnka - 27, PE teacher, uber confident, straight forward, and adaptable
Sash - 30, luxury real estate broker; egotistical; considers himself the quick-witted, charming ladies man; considers himself the best
Shannon - 30, pest control owner, likes to give orders, straight shooter, blunt and ugly (not physically)
Of course, the castaways will be hosted by Survivor's 21 year veteran Jeff Probst.
Survivor: Nicaragua - the competition
The premise of this season's competition is interesting. The young people feel they have an advantage, but I think they are wrong. You can't discount brains and brawn with a touch of wisdom. Unless they are just dizzy, the older players who can endure the physical challenges should have the advantage of age related wisdom on their side.
Going into the competition I'm going to be watching Tyrone the fireman, Jimmy T. the fisherman, and NaOnka the PE teacher. Theses three competitors seem to have the stamina physically and mentally to play the game well without alienating other players. If they get voted off early it will be because they are seen as a threat.
I'd like to see some of the cocky young men get voted off right away. They are going to be incredibly annoying.
