The "Cat Who" Mysteries by Lillian Jackson Braun: These Mysteries Are the Cat's Meow

Star Chaser
I love a good whodunit. I also love cats. That is why I like Lilian Jackson Braun.

I want a mystery that sucks me in right from the beginning, that gets me emotionally involved with the characters, and that keeps me up until I find out how it ends. I don't want blood, brains, and body parts scattered hither, thither, and yon. I don't want gross sex or excessive violence. . I just want a dead body or two or three and a question about who is responsible and why. Throw in a main character that feels like an old friend. That is what I call a good mystery. Lilian Jackson Braun fits the bill.

Ms. Braun's main characters are Qwilleran and his crime-solving Siamese cats Koko and Yum Yum. Qwill was fortunate enough to have inherited a fortune. He was a top crime reporter when he lived in the city. Koko his Siamese shows an amazing ability when it comes to crime solving. Yum Yum's main job is to be loved and to love. Together these three solve crimes and entertain those of us who lose ourselves in the world Ms. Braun has created.

They solve cases in Pickax, the biggest little city in Moose County, which is 400 miles north of everywhere but still boasts a remarkably sophisticated social and cultural scene. Lucky for us Pickax is full of funny loveable characters with whom we the reader want to spend time.

Let me recommend some good books to start.
.
The Cat Who Sang for the Birds

Qwill and the cats are involved when an elderly woman dies in a suspicious fire, and the newly opened art center falls victim to a mysterious break-in.

The Cat Who Came to Breakfast

Qwilleran and his Siamese cats, Koko and Yum Yum, journey to a peaceful island paradise that is rapidly being developed into a luxurious resort, where a series of mysterious

The Cat Who Knew a Cardinal

Trouble literally lands in Jim Qwilleran's own backyard when the local theatre's universally disliked director is found dead in Qwilleran's apple orchard.

There are 23 of these cat mysteries in all. The first one begins with Qwill acquiring Koko. Later there is another book that tells how he got Yum Yum. Then there is a book that talks about how he ended up in Pickax with an inheritance of millions.

You don't have to read these in order. I haven't. You will enjoy them no matter what order you read them in. Curl up and wade in,
