The Catholic Church is Writing Legislation?

LA Times Reports Anti Abortion Legislation

Peter Lloyd
Oh please. What happened to the seperation of church and state? Granted, this is Nicaragua but what the F*** is the church thinking? Now it is going to be illegal to perform an abortion to save the life of the mother even if ultimately both may die? Oh, that get's my vote. A**holes.

In case you missed it, the LA Times reported last week:

"Nicaragua's legislature is expected today to approve a tough law that outlaws all forms of abortion, including those procedures intended to save the life of a pregnant woman."

"The measure has been supported by most major political parties ahead of the Nov. 5 presidential election, as they seek to win over voters in this overwhelmingly Roman Catholic country. Leaders of the Catholic Church in Nicaragua helped draft the bill and have mobilized followers to support it."

Well, let's arm the Catholic clergy with some legislation and mobilize their backsides over to Iraq to stop the sensless loss of human life over there. What's good for the goose should be good for the gander, right? Or wait, maybe it's okay to abort a non-Christian fetus.

Why is that a bigger problem than the USA letting Hollywood movie buffoons weigh in disproportionately in the writing of American law and opinion?
