The Cat's Eye

( an Unforgettable Look )

Whyte Panther
by Whyte Panther (Luigi Fiorino)

On a morning roundup
'Cause the horses all got out
Not a way to start my day
Of that there is no doubt

Two hours in the desert
The sun is getting hot
When all at once I spot them
In a secluded spot

Then I hear the rattles
A brood of snakes just hatched
And with the heel of my right boot
All eight were soon dispatched

Now I approach the horses
But something isn't right
Not one of them looks at me
Something else is in their sight

I now gaze to my flank
And hiding in the grass
A mountain lion stalking
I'm frozen just like glass

It sniffs the air and turns
And sees me standing there
Then slowly he approaches
And I can run nowhere

There's something I've forgotten
I did not bring my gun
Adrenaline starts pumping
And I really want to run

I swing my rope around me
To try to scare him off
The cat is not persuaded
I think it ticked him off

I gather up the rope
And crack it like a whip
I now have his attention
God this is such a trip

I look into the cat's eye
Before he turns to leave
And leaves me with a story
Not too hard to believe

we've had our fair share out here... this is only the third one I've gotten this close to though... first one had to be put down... wrote about it in "The Endless Cycle"

Laughing at Donna's comment below ( I adore her, loads of fun too!) I probably would have done the same as her. Ughh remember this pic on FB, lol! Oooh wait, same one, or another??? Anyhow, I should pull out a song from music selections and post for a laugh...."crack that whip....whip it, into shape...." I'll behave, lol ;) great poem!!!
