In 2007, the Centers for Disease Control reported that 1 in 150 children is diagnosed with autism and that boys outnumber girls four to one.
Autism is a syndrome characterized by a lack of social skills and a decreased vocabulary. An autistic child will display abnormal movements and sensory dysfunction. The earlier a child is treated, the better the prognosis will be. With timely intervention, there is a marked increase in the percentage of children who can attend school in a typical classroom and live semi-independently in community settings.
The controversy regarding the cause of autism is ongoing with no apparent conclusion. One possible cause is exposure to Mercury (Hg), a toxic metal that can exist as a pure element or in a variety of inorganic and organic forms and can cause immune, sensory, motor, neurological, and behavioral dysfunctions similar to traits associated with autism. The major source of Hg is Thimerosal, which is frequently added to vaccines to be given to children before age two years.
An interesting article implies that Thimerosal could easily be one major cause of Autism. The article by Dawn Prate, November, 17, 2007 entitled, "The Great Thimerosal (Mercury) Vaccine Cover-up," listed some reports from experts on:
What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Autoimmune Disorders.
Dr. Russell L Blaylock MD, "Thousands of families say they can demonstrate with videotapes and photos that their children were normal prior to being vaccinated, reacted badly to the vaccines, and became autistic shortly thereafter. The number of vaccines given before age two has risen from 3 in 1940, when autism occurred in perhaps one case per 10,000 births, to 22 different vaccines given before the age of two in the year 2000."
"Mercury and autism mercury toxicity is a suspected cause of a steep rise of a tenfold increase between 1984 and 1994, in diagnosed cases of autism in children around the world, according to some scientists. Specifically, the culprit is thimerosal, a mercury-based compound used as a preservative in vaccines commonly administered to babies and infants."
Thimerosal-free vaccines are available. If you have a newborn who will be receiving vaccinations, insist that the doctor use only thimerosal-free vaccines and be sure that it is what is used. Always do your own research before consenting to any vaccines or medications.
The only hope for newborns is that the cause of Autism must be resolved.
