The oil so released mixes up with the dead skin cells and causes them to block the pores of the skin. As a result of this, the skin cannot breathe properly and there is formation of bacteria on the surface of the skin leading to acne. There are some persons who might not have suffered from acne during their teenage years and it is these persons who are affected with acne in their adult age. The result of acne in adults too is triggered of by hormonal changes and in certain cases these changes do occur during pregnancy. The birth control pills taken by women also cause hormonal increase. Some athletes take steroid based drugs to enhance their performance and this also triggers of hormonal imbalances leading to formation of acne.
There are many different types of medicines available for adult acne treatment and one can consult their physician before selecting one. This is essential when the cause of the acne is due to taking of birth control pills or performance enhancing steroids, since some of these acne relieving medications might react with the drugs the affected persons are already consuming. It also helps to have more knowledge about acne and how keeping one's skin free from excessive oil helps combat acne better. Whatever you do, do not try to squeeze the acne and burst it open. Most people think that by doing this and then applying antiseptic solutions or creams will help them to get rid of acne immediately. This is not true and by squeezing and bursting acne, you are inviting more inflammation on that area and also the chance of getting a permanent mark on your skin. One can also check out the net for more details about acne.
Lastly though adult acne can be embarassing, it is important not to let it affect your self esteem and sense of self worth. Some people even avoid social outings simply because of their embarassment about acne, but don't let this be you. Treatments are getting better and better, but more importantly, you should only let yourself be judged on what is on the inside rather than the the state of your skin.
