The Causes of Belly Fat

Towards Belly Fat Loss...

Vernon Rich
In medical parlance belly fat accumulation has something to do with excessive calorie intake and the ability of the body to burn it as fats. For a well-tuned body, there exists a balance between food intake and fat burn through the conduct of normal chores. In effect if you eat a lot while doing only menial tasks or office-bound work, then most likely you are prone to the undue build-up of fat. With children for example, they may eat a lot but that becomes compensated for all the frolicking activities of the day. For us adults we have to do extra exercise to achieve a balance.

The excess calories that we take in through food develop into fats which the muscle tissues burn as energy as we go through our daily routines. There is a holy alliance between muscle mass and fats. So if the daily activity does not compensate with the calorie intake, excess fats is readily deposited over the belly. Much like with calcium being deposited in the bones that could be extracted by the body should the calcium level drop. Thus when a person starves, all other fat deposits are used except the one in the belly which serves as the last resort.

As much as possible maintain a balanced diet. The proper mix should contain 50% protein, 30% carbohydrates, 20% fat or 40% protein, 40% carbohydrates or 20% fat. Taking a reading of your daily calorie requirement is a cumbersome process and there really is no need to follow religiously health manuals to remain healthy. The rule of thumb is eat in moderation, a little of everything will not harm you, but excessive eating will.

When is a person considered as fat?
Nobody can really tell at a glance if an individual is sporting some excess flab because physical appearance tends to be deceiving. Even if your bulk tells you otherwise, still, it is the ratio between muscle mass and fat. Muscle tissues are compact and dense while fat is fluffy and spongy, so a pound of fat is bulkier than an equivalent pound of flesh. A body sporting 70% flesh and 30% fat would look larger than one that wearing an 82% to 18% ratio of muscle to fat, even if both weigh 120 pounds. A person may look lean but is actually fat or on the contrary one looks fat but is really healthy.

If one works towards building muscle, eventually body fat deposits will be used up and in the process a well-sculpted physique will emerge. Physical exercise makes muscle tissues active and would need a good amount of calories just to maintain it. Strive to be an efficient energy-burning machine; perform prolonged physical activities such as exercise, jogging, brisk-walking or simply tend to your garden. And the good thing with that is you can now eat to your hearts content without the nagging fear of a bulging tummy.

Why do others eat a lot but do not gain weight?
If you are a physically fit person, you burn a lot of energy and the proportion of muscle mass to fat leans on the muscle side. The more active you are, the more you should eat to feed the calorie-hungry muscles you have. Strenuous physical activity makes us lose the extra fat and increases our muscle base, thereby raising our immunity against hypertension and other diseases. Going to the gym regularly reduces appointments with physicians to allow us to adhere to a more fulfilling life style.
