The Causes of Cervical Cancer in Women

Young women have immature cervix, but they still have sex. Viruses grow on the immature epithelium of the cervix and invade the surrounding structures eventually causing cancer. Though screening tests helped to detect the cancer early and decrease the cancer deaths, nothing is better than preventing the causes of cervical cancer. Staying a virgin up to at-least age 20 is the best choice.

Sex workers, no matter of which age, develop cervical cancer more because of multiple sexual partners. Women with partners who have current multiple or previous multiple partners end up having cervical cancer.

Becoming pregnant is really good for health, it prevents breast cancer, but anything excess is bad. Mostly in rural places, women get pregnant multiple times, it makes them more prone to cervical cancer. Screening tests are not available in rural places, most of the people are not aware of regular cervical cancer checkup. This leads to a late detection of cervical cancer making the treatment expensive as well as tough.
Vaginal pH is always acidic, but oral contraceptive pills alter the pH and cause cancerous viral growth. These viruses multiply best in immature epithelium of the cervix at a young age.

Preventing the causes and regular screening (Pap smear and colposcopy) will keep your cervix healthy.
