The Celebrity Apprentice: It's a Kodak Moment
The celebrities are given their next task that will feature Kodak. Kodak is looking for a new marketing campaign to show people the true Kodak experience. Celebrity teams have to devise a Kodak storefront to create, capture and share original Kodak Moments for their customers. There are 3 criteria celebrity teams will be judged on: originality of their photo studio, the Kodak Moments brand messaging, and the overall store experience. Kodak representatives will be judging the celebrity teams and choosing the overall winner who impresses them the most and meets all the criteria.
The Celebrity Apprentice: Celebrity Project Managers
When Donald Trump asks former governor Rod Blagojevich who will be the mens' project manager this week, Rod is quick to volunteer Sinbad saying he has all the new technology skills. Sinbad agrees to be the leader. After a quick deliberation the women's team chooses Maria Kanellis (WWE diva) as their project manager. The winning celebrity team will win $20,000 for their charity. Maria is playing for the Make-a-Wish Foundation while Sinbad is playing for The Omega Boys Club.
The Celebrity Apprentice: The Kodak Storefront Plan
Back in their respective war rooms, the celebrities get to work brainstorming ideas for their Kodak storefront. Project manager Maria shows she has leadership skills and quickly comes up with a plan of action for Tenacity's Kodak storefront. The plan is to make everyone coming in feel like a champion by rolling out the red carpet for the customer, then letting the customer choose a championship belt (such as won in wrestling) and then have their photo taken in a "wrestling ring" with a celebrity. Customers can then pick up their Kodak Moment photo at the printing area of the store.
Over at Rock Solid, Sinbad has some ideas but has trouble communicating those ideas to the rest of his team. Goldberg suggests that they set up different types of Kodak booths where the customers can take photos with their favorite celebrity.
The Celebrity Apprentice: Meeting the Kodak Executives
The Kodak Executives meet separately with each celebrity team to explain their product to them and what they expect from the teams. The celebrity teams learn that there will be secret shoppers visiting their storefronts to assess how the teams are doing and to rate their overall store experience. Holly asks the Kodak executives lots of questions about their product. While Holly is asking serious questions, Cyndi Lauper has a moment of lucidity and comes up with a tag line to go along with their storefront theme that impresses her teammates: "Share Kodak Moments. Bring out the champion in you."
The Celebrity Apprentice: Bare Walls at the Storefront
Tenacity goes to check out their storefront and Maria gets right on top of things sending Summer to go pick up the red carpet and other supplies. She sends Cyndi along to assist Summer mainly to get Cyndi away from everyone else. Seems Cyndi is able to get underneath everyone's skin, except perhaps Sharon. Don Jr. checks in on Tenacity and likes what he sees and hears.
At Rock Solid's storefront, the men are all still confused. Sinbad has yet to assign any tasks and the guys are getting antsy, especially Bret. Since Sinbad will not answer his questions about what to do, Bret asks Michael what he's supposed to do. Michael doesn't have an answer as he doesn't know what to do either. Meanwhile Rod is pacing the streets outside the storefront and gets mistaken for Donny Osmond. Ivanka pops in to see how Rock Solid is faring so far. She thinks the men are disorganized and their idea to use celebrity talents is not very original.
The Celebrity Apprentice: Kodak Moments
Finally both celebrity teams decide they need to take photos to hang on their bare walls. Sinbad sends his team out on the streets of New York to take their own celebrity Kodak Moments - Goldberg hoists people over his head and Bret does his rock star pose with fans.
Maria brings in children who are a part of the Make-a-Wish Foundation to take their photo with a championship belt and a celebrity.
The Celebrity Apprentice: Props & Plans
Even though her teammates think she's a bit too chatty, Cyndi proves she is a real team player by hauling the red carpet to their storefront. The wonen's team finds out that they will lose Sharon Osbourne for the remainder of the day as the doctor has told her to go home.
As Goldberg, Michael and Curtis are returning from picking up their storefront props, they discuss what the team plan is. None of them seem to know the answer and decide to confront Sinbad when they return to the store. Sinbad goes over Rock Solid's plan with them once again.
The Celebrity Apprentice: We're Getting Balloons, Right?
The guys from Rock Solid are still trying to get answers from their project manager, Sinbad. Questions like, "How are the customers going to get the photos we take?", "How do the photos get downloaded into the computer?" and "We're getting balloons, right?" Whoa! Back up there? Balloons? It seems that the governor is obsessed with having balloons and they should be red and goldenrod, not yellow, because Kodak's theme color is not yellow.
The Celebrity Apprentice: The Decorating Begins
With a new morning on the horizon, the celebrity men are learning that it is in a certain rock stars blood to always be late and they leave the hotel without him. Sharon says she feels much better (cough, cough) and will be in directly. Summer takes time to learn all she can about the Kodak products Tenacity has on display. They also have plenty of red and goldenrod balloons on display. Maria's vision is beginning to come to life as big posters of the photos they took of the Make-a-Wish children are hung on the walls and the wrestling ring is laid out.
Rock Solid decided to go a different route by having a large mural of average people hanging on one wall. It looks jumbled and confusing. The other wall is supposed to have another large mural of the photos they had taken the day before. But Sinbad's (non) communication skills have come into play again and the second mural is MIA. Sinbad gets on the phone and comes up with a compromise to get another mural printed which gets to the store just in the nick of time.
The Celebrity Apprentice: Tenacity is Open for Business
When Tenacity's Kodak store opens Maria greets guests in her wrestling outfit and points them in the direction of Cyndi Lauper who is waiting to be photographed with customers. Then customers are led to the wrestling ring where they pick out a championship belt and have another photo taken. Summer is then ready to show guests how to use the Kodak products on display and how to share their recently made Kodak Moment. Kodak photos are being printed out for guests to take home using one of Kodak's companion printers. As a "thank you for coming in" gesture, Sharon is at the exit handing out cupcakes and bottled water.
Tenacity's store is so full of guests you couldn't stir them with a stick. And to top it off, the power keeps shutting off and the Kodak photo corner has so many photos on the table that guests are having a hard time finding their photos. The secret shopper likes that she is greeted at the door, explained the store's layout and what to expect once inside. During the blackouts (there were 4 total) Cyndi breaks out in song with "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." The guests are eating it up.
Of course the Kodak executives arrive at Tenacity's storefront just as the power goes out. Hopefully they won't hold this against them. After all, being an electrician wasn't part of the criteria. The Kodak executives were impressed with Summer saying she'd make a good Kodak sales person, but were disappointed that guests were having trouble finding their Kodak Moment photos.
The Celebrity Apprentice: Rock Solid is Open for Business
Over at Rock Solid's store, New Yorkers are flocking to have their Kodak Moment photo taken with one of their favorite celebrities, Darryl Strawberry who is wearing a Mets uniform. Guests can also pose with Curtis who is "cooking", Goldberg who struts his wrestling moves, Michael who is "running" and Bret with his rock star pose complete with mics, amps and guitars. Rod and Sinbad are the Kodak photographers. Instead of handing out photos on the spot, Sinbad decides to give guests a card with information on how to retrieve their Kodak Moment online at the Kodak Photo Gallery. Secret Shopper James finds the store confusing and doesn't know how to get a copy of his Kodak Moment with his favorite celebrity.(He didn't receive a card.)
When the Kodak executives see Rock Solid's storefront and branding they are impressed. They also like how the celebrity team is using their celebrity statuses to get people into the store. They are not impressed that NO ONE is explain the Kodak products to the guests and that guests cannot immediately see, much less pick up and share, their newly made Kodak Moment.
The Celebrity Apprentice: The Boardroom
Before meeting with the celebrity teams in the Boardroom, Donald meets with the Kodak executives to get their decision. Donald also shares the secret shoppers' opinions about each Kodak storefront. Each celebrity team has their pluses and minuses. Two big minuses for Rock Solid is the fact that the secret shopper did not receive a card telling him how to retrieve his photos and they did not focus on the Kodak product. On the plus side, the celebrity men used their celebrity status to the max.
In the Boardroom, Sharon points to herself when asked who the weak player was on this task as she is still a bit under the weather. Donald addresses Cyndi's colorful hair (which has nothing to do with the task, it's just that her hair keeps changing). Cyndi assures him it comes off or out or something. Then she goes on to say that she was the hooker for the store. No one understands what that means, but it was amusing.
Sinbad points to Darryl and Goldberg as being the big draws to their storefront. Michael and Bret state that they feel the team was disorganized because if Sinbad's non-communication skills. Ivanka points out that the secret shoppers could not retrieve their online photos and some were not even given info cards about how to retrieve their photos. Sinbad insists that everyone who came in and had a photo taken received a card.
After much discussion, Donald announces that the Kodak executives were very impressed with the women's storefront and declare them the winners. The women are dismissed from the Boardroom while the men are left to discuss who should be fired.
The Celebrity Apprentice: You're Fired
Rod feels like the men might have been a bit overconfident going into this task after winning the last task. Sinbad, Michael and Goldberg do not understand why the men lost. Donald points out their mistakes such as the poor execution of sending guests to the Kodak website, the poor flow to the room which caused mass confusion and, last but not least, the lack of product display. Sinbad names Bret as a weak player; Michael points to Sinbad as having bad leadership and communication skills; Rod thinks Sinbad could have delegated tasks better. After more rehashing of the same topics as before, Donald says to Sinbad, "You're fired" and with that another comedian is gone. On his way out, Sinbad has some advice for future contestants, (Don't be afraid to) "Throw them (your opponents) under the bus."
The Celebrity Apprentice "Give Me a Moment" (episode 2) aired Sunday, March 21 on NBC.
