Germ Theory of Disease
The modern era of medicine is based largely off of the Germ Theory of Disease, largely the work of Louis Pasteur and Robert Koch. The Germ Theory is based upon the principle that every disease is the result of a specific microbe - that the body is under attack and microbes must be destroyed to ensure health. The Germ Theory is really that of a battle between ourselves and microbes. This Germ Theory was initially controversial when first proposed, but now serves as the foundation of modern medicine.
Through his research, Pasteur was instrumental in the development of vaccinations - a method of injecting microbes into the body to stimulate immunity - and Pasteurization - a method to purge microbes from foods to prevent them from harming us. In modern times, researchers continue to attempt to find a microbial cause or a genetic link for many diseases - including diabetes, cancer, and heart disease - while attempting to develop vaccinations to prevent these diseases.
In an attempt to support the Germ Theory of Disease, Robert Koch came up with four rules (known as Koch's Postulates). These postulates state:1
- The bacteria must be present in every case of the disease.
- The bacteria must be isolated from the host with the disease and grown in pure culture.
- The specific disease must be reproduced when a pure culture of the bacteria is inoculated into a healthy susceptible host.
- The bacteria must be recoverable from the experimentally infected host.
Beyond these examples, it is important to note that all humans have approximately three pounds of symbiotic gut and skin flora - bacteria that assists in our digestion and survival. These bacteria produce Vitamin K and various B vitamins that the individual can utilize and are instrumental in providing improved immunity. Moreover, all humans come in contact with millions of microbes in the air, on their skin, and on various surfaces without ever becoming sick. Strong evidence clearly supports that the Germ Theory of Disease is erred.
The war against microbial life has proved detrimental. Antibiotics, antibacterial soap, and vaccinations have created just as many problems (if not more) as they have solved! Moreover, our research shows that microbial life has existed for billions of years; they are extremely adaptable. Thinking that we can "win the war" and eradicate them is quite ludicrous.
Cellular Theory of Disease
In contrast to the Germ Theory of Disease, a contemporary of Louis Pasteur and Robert Koch, Antione Bechamp, was a biologist with an entirely different viewpoint regarding disease and microbes. He supported the Cellular Theory of Disease and the principle of pleomorphism. Although this theory has been widely disregarded in modern day medicine, it is important to note that Bechamp was not a man of little significance - he was a Master of Pharmacy, a Doctor of Medicine, and a Professor of Medical Chemistry, Physics, Toxicology, and Pharmacy. Through his various studies, he determined that disease is caused by microzymas, pleomorphic microforms that exist within all living cells. These microzymas, upon recognizing that the lifeform is dead or disorganizing, activate into various forms to "clean up" and help the organism regain health or prove its ultimate destruction. The Cellular Theory of Disease states that disease is the result of an unhealthy environment - an environment of acidity, toxicity, and nutritional deficiency.
Microbes - fungi, bacteria, viruses - are excellent "waste engineers." In nature, microbes exist in conditions in which the organism is dead or disorganizing - an environment of acidity, toxicity, or deficiency. These microbes effectively break down the lifeform into smaller products. In a forest of trees - the entire forest is not overrun with microbes - only the dead and decaying trees.
Similar to how human cells possess microzymas, enzymes that activate in microbial form to "clean up" an unhealthy cell, other biological forms contain digesting enzymes. Many fruits and vegetables contain enzymes within their cells that will begin digesting themselves when damaged. An apple that has been dropped on the floor will rapidly decay within minutes. Thus, considering that living cells contain microzymas is not far fetched as many biological forms contain their own enzymes. This is the basis of pleomorphism.
"These germs...are extraordinary; they are remarkably adaptable and incredibly vigorous. They can assume any size and any shape, sub-dividing into almost invisible granules as small as the smallest of the viruses, or growing out into large coarse filaments, but in any form their virulence remains undiminished. They can infect any species of animal, animal to man, or man to man."
- Dr. Abraham Baron, B.S., M.S., Ph.D. from his book "Man Against Germs"
For those that may seem skeptical of the Cellular Theory of Disease, it is important to note that the methods of study limit the results. Antione Bechamp stated that human blood was not a sterile fluid and that blood would rapidly be teeming with microbial life upon death as microzymas would activate into microbes and begin to decay the once "living" tissue. Most studies of blood our done through observing it through a microscope on slides that have been dyed - the medium of blood being studied is dead. With the development of Dark Field Microscopy, blood can be studied as a living tissue. Observing blood in its living environment has proven that microbes actually stem from the blood itself! Thus, it is not the microbe that is of the most importance, but rather the terrain, the environment.
Further developments in research, science, and medicine will continue to prove that the state of our body is of greater importance than microbes and genetics! The developing field of Epigenetics has proven that our genetic code that is expressed is determined by our nutrition, thoughts, emotions, toxicity, and lifestyle habits. Immunology has proven that a healthy individual repels the onset of pathogenic disease. Clearly, the environment is more important than the microbe!
This theory, the Cellular Theory of Disease, will be hard for society to grasp, but over time it will reign true. Remember, when Galileo claimed that the earth went around the sun, society at large mocked his thinking. Centuries later, society at large knows that the sun is the center of the solar system.
