The Changing Face of Nursing Homes

Valley Manor Care Center is located in the center of the city of Montrose, a small rural community located approximately sixty-five miles south of Grand Junction Colorado. Rusty brick on the outside of the building provides a warm, pleasing facade when entering the foyer. Shaped like a capital "I", the floor plan allows for freedom of movement and the perception of limitless space when walking through the halls.This facility nears twenty-five to thirty years old, but visitors
would never guess the age by looking. The floors shine continuously after daily buffing and the dedicated housekeeping department ensures spills, rooms, and lavatories are always clean.

The building maintains a 102 bed capacity with double bed occupancy for approximately 80 of these beds. A private dedicated Hospice room ensures privacy for patients and family members of those with terminal illness while being located across from the nurses station. The facility has a chapel complete with stained glass windows on the double doors entering the room. A full sized activity room is equiped complete with a kitchen and furniture donated from local ranch houses to ensure a homey atmosphere. Off the rear of the activity room is a spacious sun room so clients and families can sit outside in the winter or summer and look out through the glass ceiling to take in the beauty of a clear Colorado sky.

Valley Manor Care Center also contains 4 separate dining rooms to meet all needs; a dining room off of the rehabilitation hall provides meals to those of higher cognitive and physical acuity in an atmosphere somewhat like you would find in a restaurant. These clients are those staying in the facility for a short time due to acute illness, surgery, or rehabilitation. Another dining room located in the center of the building serves those with higher needs and long term stays. Also incorporated into this dining room are the restorative nursing staff, there to assist those re-learning skills lost due to stroke or injury. This ensures that clients are able to progress in independence with supervision. Two other dining rooms serve the Alzheimer area separately and the special needs residents on the hall where those who need total assistance with all aspects of daily living are located.

A large gymnasium allows plenty of space for the very competent staff of physical therapists, occupational therapists, and a part-time speech therapists to practice their skills.the therapists at Valley Manor Care Center accomodate client needs and lifestyles into their exercise and rehab programs to treat every patient as an individual and to enable them to return to a qualtiy of life comprable to before their illness or as close to it as possible within physical or cognitive limitations.

The nursing staff is friendly and professional, able to care for sub acute patients with all types of illness, surgery, or wounds. RN Nursing Supervisors are on staff at all times as well as Licensed Practical Nurses and a dedicated, talented Certified Nursing Staff with an average PPD of 2.0. In addition to the direct care staff are a full management team with a myriad of talents and education. Chefs to prepare meals in the kitchen to a Director of Nursing with over 20 years of experience, many of which was spent with the elderly population assist to make this nursing home special. The facility strives to stay up to date with all progress for the elderly, such as the Eden Concept and Personal Care Concept to meet the special need of our aging population.
