Reasons for Charley Horses and What Can Be Done to Help

Saying the word charley horse can sound extremely painful. For years the charley horse has been this strange major pain that pops up at anytime at any moment in your life. Usually in your ankles, calf, and legs, but it has been known to be painful in other places as well. A charley horse is basically just a muscle cramp that can be a very nagging pain or a tighten feeling that is extremely painful. This type pain will stop you in your tracks and will cause you to say the word OUCH!! yes it is that bad. So if you have never had one you don't want it.

A lot of people have reoccurring charley horses and the huge question for many is why? You may not be eating enough potassium keep them banana's in your diet this is a plus. Before and after exercising be sure to do your stretching this can be a way to avoid charley horses while exercising. A lot of times charley horses will occur when you are in the middle of a activity. It can occur when running or jogging but it not only occurs when you are working your muscles it also can occurs when you are sleeping.

The sudden pain of a charley horse in the middle of your sleep is one of the most horrible pains to have. No one really knows the real cause of a charley horse, but it has been studied that their are certain things that can be done to manage them. Stretching your muscles often can help and don't work out when you are extremely fatigue. If you are during a work out and when doing it you continue to get a charley horse that work out is not for you, but you will need to consult your doctor for further notice as to what work out is best for you.

Remedies that works like miracles for charley horses is using rubbing alcohol on the area. Rubbing alcohol has been known to swiftly soothe the pain of a charley horse. Some people say don't use rubbing alcohol and add more calcium to your diet there are lots of things to do. If or when you get a charley horse you will want a cure for it and fast so you will see what works best for you. Using a heating pad in the area that is hurting can also soften the muscles and this will make it feel better then ever.

The one thing you don't want to do is panic when you are having a charley horse pain panicking will only cause your muscles to tighten even more. Trying to relax more despite the pain will work better for you then to panic about the pain. Keep in mind that if you get a charley horse and you are in a place where there is no items such as a heating pad, or alcohol you can also continually massage the area for relief.

Note to stretch as often as possible and keep up your water, potassium and calcium intake. Keep a heating pads near by if you get them often during the night. If you get this too often you might want to see a doctor cause it could be something more than just a charley horse. Condition's such as vascular problems or even diabetes so be mindful of what is going on with your body. Keep in mind that a charley horse will never kill you, but the pain of it can almost feel like you dying.
