Colorado, being a large and mountainous state, has many options for finding your own fresh-cut Christmas tree. Some of the tree farms offer better prices and more experience for the dollar. In some cases, it is the difference between walking around in a corn field looking for a tree, and taking a family hay ride through the trees and caping it off with cider. The trick to making memories is getting the biggest bang for the buck. In my families Christmas adventures, we have found three farms to be the best.
Cheapest Christmas Tree Farms in Greeley and Northern Colorado
Christmas Tree Acres
LaSalle, CO.
Phone: 970-284-6061.
Why I like it:
Christmas Tree Acres offers, hands down, the best prices for fresh cut christmas trees, and it is a small family owned farm. Christmas Tree Acres trees are in the $35 - $60 price range, and they offer optional services such as shaking and baling (removing the dead needles and preparing for transport) for $3. There are coupons available for $3 off, which essentially pays for your tree prepping.
Christmas Tree Acres features a small gift shop, warm cider and cookies. My children love the "Gradma's House" feel of the event, and so do I. It feels good to support a local family, especially around the holidays. If you are interested in visiting the farm, supporting the family, but not cutting your own tree, Christmas Tree Acres also sells precut trees for reasonable prices.
Fern Hill Christmas Tree Farm
2001 Fern Avenue, Greeley, CO
Phone: 970-352-4478.
Why I like it:
Fern Hill Christmas Tree Farm is another small, locally owned farm. The trees at the Fern Hill Farm are a little more expensive than at the other tree farms, but the experience is wonderful. You can expect to pay $45 - $75 for a tree. At the Fern Hill Tree Farm, you get a hay ride out to the field, a saw to use, and then the hay wagon picks you up on the return trip. You can also get your tree shaken and prepped. My kids love riding through the snow and tree fields on the back of a hay wagon.
You also have access to a farmhouse gift shop, apple cider, and snacks. We have been to Fern Hill while hunting for the perfect tree, and ended up staying for an hour just chatting with the owner. The atmosphere, experience, and tree quality make this tree farm a great value.
Windsor's Christmas Tree Farm
33741 Highway 257, Windsor, CO
Phone: 970-686-5253.
Why I like it:
Windsor's Christmas Tree Farm is a new find for my family, and it has the highest prices, but it also features great experiences. At Windsor's Christmas Tree Farm offers Moonlight Hayrides through what they call the "Enchanted Forest." A moonlight hayride with hot chocolate through the moonlight snowfield is a great experience and worth the more expensive trees. Windsor, Colorado, being in the Northern Corner of Colorado receives a bit more moisture then the Southern areas so the trees are a little fuller and greener.
Again, and Windsor's Christmas Tree Farm, you are offered complimentary cider and snacks. I will be visiting the Windsor tree farm in order to help the town recover from their tragic and devastating 2008 tornado. It will feel great to help out the local community.
If your family doesn't have a tradition of choosing and cutting their own Christmas Tree, it is not too late to start. There are few ways of celebrating Christmas that feel as traditional and grounded as heading out into the woods to cut down a Christmas tree with a hand saw. The cost may be a bit more than the alternatives, but the memories you will create are priceless.

Post a CommentOn the south east side there is a nursery on Hwy 86 between Elizabeth and Kiowa, Holly Acres. Saturday after Thankgiving they have sleigh rides for free. This year Santa will be there. My kids had fun in the workshop with the elves and they were priced right with their trees and had alot of neat christmas items in the gift shop

nice place!
The trees are not as pretty as the ones I get in Denver at the local tree lots!
Merry Christmas...
These farms sound great. I'm lucky because I live in the woods in Maine so if I want a real tree they are 'down back'. :) I like the way you presented the choices here. How wonderful to be in Colorado! Your babies are beautiful Daddy.
