The main reason that I love the show so much is that Chef Jeff has such a love and compassion for these young people. He is determined to not only teach them how to become great cooks, but, to become people of purpose and dedication. I feel like I know them all personally, and have grown quite fond of them and hope that each is successful.
Maria is the baby of the group. She shows such maturity that it is hard to believe that she is only 18. I beamed like a proud Mama when she became Team Lead for one of the catering jobs. She did an exceptional job; keeping the team together and coordinating the service for the event, although Chef Jeff was unable to participate fully do to a hand injury.
Another one who has gripped my heart is Adam. I can tell he has a big heart, that's why he carries so much anger. He has been hurt and disappointed a lot in his young life, but, thru pursuing his dream of being a cook, I know he will combat those obstacles.
Shante is a young mother of four and sees the Chef Jeff Project as a way to accomplish her goals and build a future for her family. I believe the love for her children will motivate her to complete the mission.
Alonzo is the type of personality that draws people and people want to love him. He is already enrolled in a culinary program and is determined to overcome the pitfalls of the streets.
Katherine is much stronger than she thinks and always shines through on every project. She has survived drug addiction and is quickly becoming a responsible young adult with a bright future in cooking.
I see Brett as the strong silent type. I believe he is full of surprises and will ultimately go on to achieve whatever goals he sets for himself in the culinary world.
Upon completing the The Chef Jeff Project, each of these young people will receive a $20,000 scholarship to The International Culinary Schools. In addition to that, The Food Network is sponsoring The Chef Jeff Project Scholarship Contest for anyone who is interested in pursuing a career in the culinary arts. You can sign up at The Chef Project Scholarship Application
You can, also, read more about the The Chef Jeff Project on The Food Network website, as well as, view videos, full bios, and a detailed airing schedule. I know you will be as inspired as I am. I only wish there were more programs like this on television, which show that there is hope after life's mistakes.
