The Chicago Raffaello Hotel Bridal Package in Review

Rebecca White-Glanders
A wedding is supposed to be the most important day in a couple's life (short of the day when they find themselves increasing their number), and should be celebrated as such. For many, the act of marriage is just as important as the venue that it is performed at, and for some, the Raffaello Hotel in Chicago, Illinois is the location of choice. Positioned right next to the world famous Hancock building, the Raffaello prides itself on its image of service and quality, but how does the Raffaello Hotel Bridal Package stack up to its competitors? Is the package worth it?

For starters, the happy couple is presented with a $50 gift card good at over 900 local shops and restaurants. While not needed on your wedding day, you have to ask yourself, what are you going to do tomorrow? Dinner at Navy Pier? A visit to the Hard Rock Café? It never hurts to have a plan, or a gift card.

Next, the bride to be will receive certificate from Mario Tricoci for a Complimentary Makeup Consultation and a Custom Blended "Perfect Bride Lip Color". This is good for those that haven't had time to do any proper planning considering their choice of makeup or appearance. Plus, on a day when most are too shaky to hold their hands steady, it never hurts to have some help.

The happy couple will need to register, and the Raffaello provides a Bridal Registrant Package from Williams-Sonoma. For those of you without rich friends, take advantage of the free gifts offered (usually a pairing knife, cutting board or some measuring cups according to www.freestufftimes.com) and file the registry somewhere realistic. Think about how much you were willing to spend on other peoples weddings, and plan accordingly. For ideal registry situations, try www.Target.com or www.jcpenny.com for suggestions or electronic registry. Your guests will appreciate not breaking the bank while breaking in your new marriage.

Other items included in the Bridal Package are perfume from L'Artisan Parfumeur, some free chocolate from Ethel's Chocolate Lounge, and some discount coupons from L'Occitane (think Bath & Body Works, but massively overpriced). Also, don't forget the offered Late Checkout of 2pm. Granted, you'll be exhausted after your wedding day, but this is something most hotels will offer anyway if asked.

Now the big question, how much does all this cost? A normal room at the Raffaello can vary in price due to season and availability, ranging from $168 to well over $500 depending on your choice of room. The average cost of the Bridal Package for two adults in a regular king is $297. Considering the services in makeup and prep, this isn't terrible, but it's not fantastic, either. This does not include any facilities, wedding arrangements or other items, merely what is listed here.

So why take the Bridal Package? First off, location. The John Hancock Center is right across the street and is known for hosting some legendary receptions in the Signature Room on the 95th floor. Also, you're within walking distance of the Lake and a short jaunt from any number of incredible activities. Also, if you're looking to catch a concert on your honeymoon, there is always an act or two moving through the city. Plus, the shopping is incredible! You have Marshall Fields, Bloomingdales, Gucci and a ton more.

Overall, the package is just that, a hotel package. As far as being the pillar of your wedding experience, this should not qualify, but if you're looking for something nice to accentuate the time spent with your loved one, and if you're looking for a bit of pampering from people who are courteous and kind, the Raffaello Hotel Bridal Package is a worthy addition to your wedding day wish list.
