The Child Goes Off to School

John Smither
The child she goes off to school
She is happy for the respite
Not the best student, certainly no fool
It is safer there away from the contrite

Her carers to her are abusive
Their son, her brother is unaware
It seems to her mind that it is exclusive
But as you get older little brother beware

She does not complain, she does not cry
In sleep she dreams no more pain please today
The abuse is controlling somewhat sly
Soon she can leave, time to fly away

If she were a bird, she could take flight
Despite all these pressures she chooses
To not defend herself neither learning how to fight
She uses her mind to defeat the abuses
(That way she wins in the end).
