Watching Jake cough up a lung, I knew that what he had was serious. Every time we went outside, he started hacking away. I took him to the doctor, and ended up in the hospital four times. The doctor gave him medicine for asthma, which didn't work. The last time we were at the hospital, they took his Xrays several times because they kept coming back fuzzy. I went to a specialist at the children's hospital, where I was told only 10% of the patients have Xrays like that, and it meant that his lungs were scarred. The specialist recommended the same asthma medication (which didn't work well) and Zantac, for reflux. Jake did much better, but he detested taking the asthma inhaler. I thought he would get used to it, because he would realize that it would make him better. But, he never liked it and it never worked very well.
I don't remember why we went to the chiropractor- I think it was on a whim. By then, Jake was four and his asthma was not in control. The chiro told me that he regularly adjusted children, and his own children got adjustments whenever they had asthma attacks. I did not believe him. Jake was already on two medications that barely helped. I figured it couldn't hurt, so I let the doctor adjust him. In a few weeks, I realized that Jake didn't need his inhaler anymore. Jake went for regular adjustments after that, and he didn't have another attack for about five years, and it coincided with an ear infection. I am convinced that the chiropractor cured his asthma to the point that Jake rarely has episodes, even though prior to this he was out of control. He "showed me".
