The Christmas Story

Walton S. Tissot
Told before
I'll tell it again
In the beginning
Is where to begin

Before the babe
Swathed and wrapt
Precious son
In stable napped

The Yule log burned and looked ahead
The evergreen in bold defiance
Snow and freeze, in winter dead
Nature's soul and man's reliance

Solstice and the birth of the sun
Saturnalia's disorder
A bit of fun
Draw a bowl and share the cheer
Feast day of the sun once a year
Adopted to adopt the son

Christ's mass
Close the factory on Christmas day
The creation of traditions
Love thy neighbor and pause to pray

The nativity
Wise ones, mother Mary and child
The lord of all men
Rag clad poor or richly styled
Born on earth to free from the sin

Now here we are; to what we know today
Coca- Cola red, Reindeer and sleigh
Down all our chimneys without pause
Saint Nick the bishop; the Santa Clause

Tree and tensile
Boxes and Bundles
Pretty little bags
Each and every
All with tags

Remnants of the past
They're plain and clear
Some things hold fast
Meanings fade I fear

But no matter how, the why, the when
Christmas time is here again
A time for joy, for love, for friend
Family and how we remember
Each and every December

Merry Christmas to all
As we all do say
With goodwill and tidings
For this very special day

Most excellent work of art, it is a shame that poetry like this and many other writer's do not get enough exposure.
