The Cincinnati Bengals: Best Players of the 2000's

A Decade of Cincinnati Bengals

Bryan Mckinley
The Cincinnati Bengals were one of the laughing stocks of the NFL during the 1990's and the first few seasons of the 2000's. Things turned around in 2005 for the Bengals, when Carson Palmer led them to an above .500 record and the playoffs for the first time since 1990. Just when it looked like the Bengals were on the right track, they fell apart in the next two seasons. One healthy Carson Palmer and happy Chad Ocho Cinco later, they are back into the playoff race. The Bengals are 9-7 and just need to win one of their last two games to clinch their second playoff appearance of the decade. For most teams that wouldn't be such a big deal, but for the Bengals, it is reason to celebrate. Out of all the players that wore a Cincinnati Bengals jersey, these are the best five of the 2000's. (Only accomplishments and stats while playing for the Cincinnati Bengals from 2000-2009 were considered.)

1. Chad Ocho Cinco - Chad Ocho Cinco, Chad Johnson; it doesn't matter what he decides to call himself; either way, he is one of the best receivers in the past decade. Ocho Cinco has hauled in 680 receptions for 9,921 yards and 61 touchdowns in nine seasons with the Bengals. He has been selected to five pro bowls and holds six Cincinnati Bengals franchise records, including most receptions.

2. Carson Palmer - The Bengals started to turn their franchise around in 2003 by drafting Palmer with the first overall pick. He didn't get to start for Cincinnati until 2004, but he quickly made an impression on the Bengals brass once he did start. Since then, Palmer has passed for over 18,500 yards and 126 touchdowns.

3. Rudi Johnson - In six seasons with Cincinnati, Rudi Johnson rushed for 5,742 yards and 49 touchdowns. The Auburn University Alum was selected for the 2004 Pro Bowl.

4. T.J. Houshmandzadeh - During his seven seasons with the Bengals, T.J. slowly became known for more than just being that guy with the impossibly long last name. He had 507 catches, 5,770 yards receiving and 37 touchdowns while with the Bengals.

5. Justin Smith - Smith terrorized quarterbacks for seven seasons while with the Cincinnati Bengals. He had 471 tackles, 43.5 sacks and forced seven fumbles.
