The Cinema Center - Fort Wayne's Premiere Film Society

In 1976, a small group of Fort Wayne residents decided they wanted to form an organization that would provide film enthusiasts in the Fort Wayne and surrounding areas with film options besides the regular Hollywood fare.

Thus began the Cinema Center - a film society that has given the Fort Wayne, Indiana residents the opportunity to see movies that would normally pass through our area.

The Cinema Center has also formed a variety of activities that surround the film society.

One, of which, is Movie Talk.

Catherine Lee, executive director of the Cinema Center says that the recent showing of Food, Inc. brought in a large viewing audience and their '˜movie talk' after the show was animated and involved. "Area residents are very concerned about the issue of clean food, and this movie brought a lot of attention to that subject," says Lee.

There are over 500 members of the Cinema Center today and two locations bring movies to the area on a regular basis. The original location for the Cinema Center, 437 E. Berry Street in downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana has a regular schedule of film showings.

The Cinema Center also has film showings at their location at Indiana Tech, located at 1600 E. Washington Blvd in the Andorfer Commons in Fort Wayne. "The Andorfer Commons show times are centered on the school schedule in order to be helpful to the students and others who take advantage of this area," says Lee.

The Cinema Center's original mission was to bring independent, foreign, and documentary films to the northeast Indiana area. These are movies that would not be seen in this region, if not for this organization.

It is noteworthy that this group that started out in 1976 with this simple mission in mind continues to grow and bring exciting film, innovative ideas, and a place to discuss both to northeast Indiana.
