The films of the 1980s covered many genres. However, the 80s were dominated by the action, horror and science fiction genre and a few crossing between multiple genres. The 80s saw the blockbuster boom, meet its potential with Blockbusters like Star Wars and E.T.

The 007 was a main stay series in the 80s belting out 5 installations thorough out the decade. The installations that were release ever alternate year of the decade were, For Your Eyes Only (1981), Octopussy (1983), A View to a Kill (1985), The Living Daylights (1987), License to Kill (1989).

Ground breaking action movie franchises like Crocodile Dundee, Indian Jones and Rambo were created in this decade. Established box office successes like Rocky returned with block buster sequels to keep the adoring fans coming back for more. Top gun and Rainman were amongst the numerous one off movies that made it big in the 80s.

The science fiction movies hit unprecedented success in the 80s. With the success of movies like E.T., Honey, I shrunk the Kids and the rise of science fiction movie franchises like the returning Star Wars and the brand new Back to the Future.

The horror genre matured drastically and spawned super hits that terrified the world. Friday the 13th and Gremlins were the most successful horror movie of the 80s.

The 80s also contributed to the hopelessly romantic individual's movie collection by churning out timeless classics like Dirty Dancing and When Harry met Sally.

    Ah, the movies that made up my childhood. I do have a problem these dys though, I can't sit through E.T. anymore. I have see the movie so many times, it makes me sick.
