Rock Climbing Provides a Total Body Workout

Rock climbing provides an all-over body workout. With rock climbing you, work your arms, shoulders, trunk and legs. It is also a high calorie workout. There are accounts that you can burn as many as 700 calories rock climbing. It is unlikely though that those who choose to partake in rock climbing in an indoor gym will burn quite so many calories. You can expect to burn upwards of 400 calories per hour rock climbing.

There is foam flooring and crash pads and newcomers to climbing have access to climbing equipment for rent. The climbing areas are broken down by skill levels.

What Can I expect from My First Climb?

Newcomers to climbing and to Pittsburgh's Climbing Wall can expect to pay $12 for their first climb. The climbing gym offers introductory classes and advanced instruction. There are also classes available for kids. If this is your first time to experience climbing, expect to feel pretty sore the next day. Rock climbing is an all over body workout. Expect to work muscles that you may not normally work. Indoor rock climbing is much safer than outdoor rock climbing and is a good way for the novice to be introduced to the climbing experience.

Pittsburgh's Climbing Wall has been around for several years and has been getting pretty good reviews from those who have tried it. Rock climbing may be the perfect "extreme sport" for those stuck in an exercise rut.
