The Clogged Drain

Donna Cavanagh
I plunged and plunged, but the clog did not budge
The water stood still and would not move
I lift weights and swim miles per week
But to this clog, my strength I could not prove

I was convinced it was just a matter of time
The water would flow if I kept up the fight
But exhausted, I threw down the plunger in disgust
And into the room came my shining knight

Yes, with three more plunges, the clog disappeared
The water started to circle the drain
I looked at him with a frustrated glance
And he said "At times a little help is the name of the game."

How true is this in everyday life?
We hit our emotional clogs and can't break free
We struggle to be strong and so invincible
But on our own, that freedom is impossible to see

Sometimes it takes another person
To be our strength when our hopes and confidence wane
A loving heart who is willing to plunge away our fears
A strong set of arms ready to remove our pain

    Very true. Nicely written.

I like the way you relate your everyday traumas to life in general.

This reminds me of a time when I first married my husband and I had argued with him one night and made the comment "Men are useless". Later that night after he had gone to bed, I was washing clothes and the washer didn't cut off and was overflowing onto the floor. I ran in the bedroom, woke him up, and after he got up and fixed the washer, he said "Well, I guess men aren't useless all the time, huh?"

Great stuff. I have never had a clogged drain - just as well as I don't have a "white knight" to help me! Guess there's always my neighbor handyman.

I have so been there! We had a "clog" problem that seemed insurmountable - then along came the Knight! (..don't you just love when that happens!) and the clog disappears! Imagine that - in this case, it wasn't a clogged drain but it was something just as problematic! cheers :)

Emotional clogs can be stubborn at times and our efforts to unclog them trying at times. Another set of mental hands always comes in handy! Great poem Donna!

The idea of being "stuck" resonates with me lately. Thanks again Donna, keep posting these morning "pick-me-ups".

I echo what Patricia said. I love how inspiration for wisdom is all around us.
