The Coffee Cure for Going Bald

Brant McLaughlin
Research in recent times suggest that coffee can hold the cure for going bald. Yes, if you're going bald or think you're going bald, if you look in the mirror and your eyes just don't have that youthful sparkle anymore and you feel that you have lost a few more hairs, then the coffee cure may be for you!

Believe it or not, going bald can be staved off or even reversed with caffeine, according to some scientists. Caffeine stimultes the growth of hair follicles on the scalps of men, they say.

While some men think that being bald is okay, or even cool, and while some young men even shave their heads, the great majority of men under 50 who are going bald feel that their balding makes them less attractive and less youthful-seeming, even to themselves, which can cause a psychological energy drain and lead to feelings of anxiety or depression. But, perhaps if those men who are going bald but are too embarrassed to do anything about it, and that is the great majority of balding men, were to suck down some more black water, they would see a reversal of their shame in time. Caffeine seems to block the production of a chemical called DHT, which in males often inhibits the growth of new hair follicles and causes older ones to die out. DHT is stimulated into production by actions that stimulate increased production of testosterone in males such as stress, strenuous physical activity, or sexual activitiy. (So, one thing that younger men who are going bald might want to suggest to people in order to fortify their self-esteem is that their baldness is caused by being athletic or getting lots of sex!)

However, the panacea for those that think they're going bald might not have been discovered. Scientists estimated that one would have to drink about 60 cups of coffee per day in order to sufficiently stave off DHT and stimulate hair follicle growth to the extent needed to prevent or reverse baldness. So, the German company Alpecin has developed a cafeine-rich solution that is meant to be rubbed into the scalp in order to inhibit DHT interactions with hair follicle cells and stimulate these cells to grow new follicles. In an eight-month experiment with a caffeine-rich scalp-rubbing solution, a British research team found that using the solution enhanced the length of hair follicles between 33 and 40 percent during the eight month time. There are many scalp-rub solutions on the market that men have been using for many years to stop from going bald, but these rather expensive treatments have been erratic in their results and often take two years or so to begin having any effect. The caffeine solution could be an inexpensive and faster-acting preventive medicine for going bald.
