The Cold War: The Lifetime of Senseless Change

Alfonso Coley
The fever of circumstance of 1945 to 1960

Shaped the world for better for worse.

The architecture of war

Has always been a reverent death,

A death never to be defeated.

1960 was my birth into a murderous world,

But I knew nothing of this madness,

Knew nothing of the sign of times,

And I knew nothing of

The men and women who fought for my freedom,

Knew nothing of their incredible death.

The Cold War changed our design

For humble peace, the angry times

Where the iron hand ruled many people.

The Cold War may be over

But the revolution for freedom

Of the underprivileged and poor

Who struggle in poverty

Still exist, their children still

Run for cover.

The secret night

Of the Cold War

Is a stinging reminder that

The fight for true freedom still exists.

Remember the revolution of 1945,

For those who neglect to remember

Their past

Will surely relive

The cold and wounded years of history.
