The College Football BCS System is Horrible

Why the College Football National Championship BCS System is Unfair

Why do we continue to support a system that is inherently unfair to the kids who play at schools like TCU, Boise State, and Cincinnati. If I were Brian Kelley I would be seriously considering leaving my school too. Under the current corrupt system these mid major level schools will never be able to win a College Football National Championship in the current BCS system. Here are 3 reasons why.

1. The BCS supporters think they are guaranteeing a 1 vs. 2 matchup in the College Football National Championship game. In fact this may be impossible. I believe it to be highly possible that the 2 best teams in the country during the 2009 season were Alabama and Florida. These 2 teams dominated the standings for the entire season. They easily proved that they were the 2 best teams in the country. If indeed these 2 teams were the best 2 in the country then there is virtually no way for them to appear in the National Championship game under the current BCS system. The best these 2 teams can do is play a national semi final in their conference championship game.

2. The BCS supporters think they are making the most money as is. I just can't believe that the powers that be can't wake up and see how big a BCS playoff would be in our country. With the right marketing plan the BCS college bowl system could become the largest sporting tournament in the world. Due to the fact that schools like Texas, LSU, Florida, Florida State, and USC probably have larger followings than their NFL counterparts from the same states. If the BCS system would adopt a 6-8 team playoff as described here I believe it highly possible that the ratings for these games would be monsterous. You could use every bowl game leading up to these games as the warm up or the "opening acts" for the College Football national Championship game.

3. The BCS supporters think they will lengthen the season. This one I truly don't understand. The lower division college football divisions have play off systems already in place and they have proven to work time and time again. It is complete hypocrisy to say that it would lengthen the division 1 teams while ignoring the fact that they already do this in the lesser divisions.

The BCS is going to wake up one day and possibly ask the question "What Happened?" If this is the case I pray they will look back and see how they ruined the College Football National Championship series due to their inability to effect change. Come on NCAA we can do it.

Interesting. My alma mater, Grand Valley State University, is once again in the NCAA Division II championship football game being televised, at least locally, on ESPN2 at noon eastern time Saturday 12/12. Go Lakers!

I don't know much about the system per se, but I do know earlier in the season Oklahoma State University was just plain cheated out of a game. They might not have won anyway, but the calls were so bad even the commentators who usually wouldn't say so commented on it. I suppose, like everything else, people with a selfish attitude are running things.
