The Colors of Beauty

Donna Cavanagh
There is one tree in the yard across the street
Whose leaves have already turned orange and red
The morning sun illuminates the dazzling hues
And its beauty prevents me from turning my head

Right now, it stands alone in its majesty
Still green are the surrounding trees
Like a proud peacock showing off its plume
The tree appears to rule over all that it sees

While it's true that the tree holds our attention
It's nothing compared to what will be
When all the trees begin to show their fall colors
And paint a picture of magnificent beauty

Sometimes we are like the lone tree
We think we shine best when we shine on our own
But it is when others are allowed to also show their colors
That we see the true beauty of not standing alone
