And please let me give you this background information regarding my review: I am almost culturally illiterate when it comes to current television, television shows, and television personalities. Aside from baseball games - MLB, minor league, and college - I don't watch television and often need help managing which remote is needed in any given situation.
But these ads that I've been watching interspersed with the MLB playoffs are funny. I mean as in funny, humorous, and leaving you chuckling when you recall or relate the commercial to someone hours later. I don't know who he's teamed with for this new show's promotion, but I genuinely hope they hang around to help write and guide the new "Conan" program.
The first one I noticed was one I've seen the least, it's the sad vignette with the John Waite song, "Missing You," in the background. As people moon and pine over some lost love, the observer slowly (or at least I did) becomes aware of some humorous stereotypes and then the guy eating the alphabet soup that spells out C-O-N-A-N absolutely seals it.
The blimp series are even more fun. The obvious "blah-blah-blah" mouth motions over whatever teams Conan announces, along with the pilot's supposed appreciation of the comedian is so silly as to be funny. You can't help it. The slyer ones where Conan and the Captain exchange witty barbs are good too: the Captain's rank bar related to his being with Conan's mother, Conan's insults regarding whatever skill or lack thereof is involved in piloting a blimp, the "mist take-off" crack.
And, lastly, there's the Conan rendition of the model washing her car, only he's washing his desk to the same rock-and-roll tune. Those slow motion supposedly sexual moves are simply hysterical when mimed by the comedian.
If these commercials are any indication of the strength and humor of his new show, I make have to learn some new television skills.
