Autism is a pervasive developmental disorder characterized by restricted social involvement or peculiar repetitive behaviors which would be accompanied with stereotyped enthusiasm on only some specific aspects etc. It is also characterized by some severe impairment of non-verbal or verbal communication with restrictions in sensory responses. A recent study shows that out of 1000 births 15 are prone to have this disorder. There are common symptoms of autism in children that are easily identifiable and should immediately give you warning signs.

Identifying the symptoms of autism in children is quite a tedious process, because no two kids suffering from autism would have the same symptom. The severity among different affected children varies from one kid to the other. And also there are no identifiable causes for autism in children; they range from genetic reasons to some viral or chemical malfunctions in the brain of the affected kid.

Now let us see about some of the symptoms that may prevail in autism affected children:

You have to take a deep look in to the social relationship of a kid, because autism affected kid will show negligible interest in sharing relationships with other people. They always try to avoid contact with other people. These kids would avoid being cuddled by others. But some children may be interested in making relationships with others but they feel very difficult to express their feelings or may feel depressed while trying to impress others.

Another major symptom which you may identify in these affected kids is 'echolalia', this is characterized by the following phenomena, whenever you say something to them the affected kid would repeat back the same sentence within a period of time. A study shows that about 40 percent of the affected kids would have speech impairment.

Children suffering from this disorder would find it quite difficult to comprehend gestures like 'waving hands' or 'nodding the head' etc. they also have certain peculiar difficulty in putting the correct words in their conversations, they are prone to misplace 'I' and 'you' in a sentence. During conversations they tend to prolong a single topic for more time. Some of the affected children won't like conversations they would love to speak continuously to others rather listening to them.

Other symptoms regarding autism affected children are that they will be very much particular about their system or scheme of doing things. They would follow a specific order to every thing they do, if any one changes this order even for some useful purposes, they tend to get upset. Most of the affected children would have delayed development in language development and cognitive capability. But after some time they would continue to grow normal in their physique and motor skills similar to other children. They may be capable of solving some hard puzzles or software programs easily, which other normal children may find difficult to do. But these symptoms vary from one kid to the other so be watchful while analyzing the symptoms of autism in children.
