The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Budget Proposal by Governor Edward G. Rendell
Passed on February 4, 2009 it Includes No Funding to Continue the School's Operations

We rise here now to sing her praises, alma mater true.
The mountains echo every word our loyalty to you.
From cottage number one to grads now in the sun,
We pledge our faith and give our hearts to dear old Scotland School.
Soldiers . . .
In foxholes or pup tents they sleep
in unfamiliar, far away distant lands
Lonely and yearning for their families.
They build a brotherhood like no other.
Carrying with them life stories and dreams
to share with those who didn't.
Unspoken promises, many gave a love
so profound to those who are not
home-ward bound to keep their dream alive.
This school is where a soldier's grief stricken
child or children now call it their home,
when a parent serves a country
called the--U.S.A. 'For now they have no family.'
It has stood many years in tribute and class.
Giving devoted love to those children whose parents
have passed, served, or their family has been torn apart.
The politicians want it closed,
they say there's no dough!
Yet the world's companies
line their pockets, relax in spa's,
taking private jets and limousines
for far away cuisine.
Author Notes
They probably want to put in a shopping center, or a race track to gamble at, to fund and support more of their personal what-nots. . .

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania budget proposal announced by Governor Edward G. Rendell on February 4, 2009 includes no funding to continue operations of Scotland School after June 30, 2009. http://www.ssvcalumni.org/
History:
In 1895, over a dozen of the remaining Civil War-era state schools and homes for war orphans were consolidated at what was known as the Pennsylvania Soldiers Orphans Industrial School and is now called Scotland School for Veterans Children.
From an institution whose students were war orphans, Scotland School has evolved into a residential school providing general elementary and secondary education to eligible children.

Post a CommentThis is well presented. It is too bad that they don't want to continue funding for such a historically important school.
