Cortisol can have long lasting damages done to your body if you allow yourself to stay stressed out for prolonged periods of time. Some damages can possibly be, but not limited to, hyperglycemia, decrease muscle tissue, abdominal fat may increase, low immunity system which can lead to many sick, sick days, bone density can decrease, and so much more. It is for the best to keep this hormone only producing a little bit of the time rather then all the time. I know it is hard to stay stress free all the day, everyday, but you need to try a few things if you have experienced a lot of stress. Lower stress will lead to less Cortisol being secreted. Some of the stress relieving activities could be yoga, therapy, meditation, reading, sleeping, doing a favorite hobby of yours, vent out to a friend just to get it off your mind and chest, writing and so many more stress relieving activities.
Even though you may find yourself worrying more now that you are a stressful person and thinking the hormone Cortisol is secreted into your body by the gallons, you still need to contact your doctor or health physician for further test results. Every individual is different and some people can handle stress better then others, so their body may not be affected as bad to the hormone as yours maybe. If you also have any further questions then please take a look at the article I researched for this article titled Cortisol and Stress: How to Stay Healthy. There is really good information on there for you to be able to handle your stress with more chronic stress techniques and so much more!
