Today we find much confusion when trying to know just what Islam is, who are the people who follow it, and what does it really teach. I will try to explain how sometimes we confuse Muslims with Islam. In order for me to do that, you must know that sometimes someone saying they are a Muslims does not always mean they practice Islam.
Islam is not really a religion. Islam is a way of living your life in accordance with the will of the Creator of all things. The creator of the heavens and the Earth, the seen and the unseen. Islam is a way of life practiced by all of the prophets that ordered to them by the Creator. It started with Adam the first man, who is the true father of every human being, Moses, Abraham, Noah, Ayub, Jesus, and thousands of others and ending with the last and final Prophet Muhammad, may Allah send his peace and blessings upon him and all of the Prophets. They all taught the people of there time that there is only one true God, and to worship only him alone. They taught that this God has no being and no end, he has no partners, nor any children, he creates what ever he wills simply by saying be, and it is!
If we turn on the television today you find vision of violence and hatred, with pictures of people you would say look like a Muslim. However these types of people, although they call themselves Muslim do not always practice what the Creator asks of us. They do what they do on there own free choice and for they own reasons. They do not get there justification from the way of living called Islam. What acts they carry out, such as killing of children, women, and of the elderly. Committing suicide by blowing themselves up. All of these acts are against the laws of Islam, they are not what Muslims are taught, they are major sins according to the laws of Islam. In the Quran Allah subhana wa ta ala says, if a person kills just one person, it is like he has killed all of humanity. If a person saves the life of just one person, it is like he has saved all of humanity. How can a statement from the Creator such as that, ever be ignored when it could not be said any clearer.
Islam teaches to worship only one Creator and to associate no partners with him. To be kind to your parents even if they are not Muslims. To be good to your neighbors even if they are not Muslims, to feed them if they have no means to do so for themselves. To help the wayfarer and the less fortunate. To give obligatory charity and voluntary charity. To pray daily, to believe in the Prophets and the Angels, and all the Scriptures such as the Torah, The Gospels, and the Quran, as they were all sent by Allah to the world, but man has changed them to suit his needs all except the Quran which has been protected by Allah as the final message to mankind before the day of judgement.
I hope this brief but informative article has cleared up some of the confusion about Muslims and Islam.
I encourage you to read more about Islam and Muslims with a open heart and open mind and see for yourself what this beautiful way of life is all about!
