The Cons of Wearing School Uniforms

Although I don't agree with many of the negative aspects of uniforms, there are reasons that people don't like uniforms. I know that school uniforms can be uncomfortable, I wore them growing up in a couple schools and I found ways to make them more comfortable and my parents had always taught me that school isn't intended to be fun, it's a place where I need to work and be focused. So fashion and individuality isn't the most important thing in school. That is for after school and hanging out with friends.

Stifles Individuality

While doing some research on the cons of school uniforms, I noticed that many people believe that school uniforms stifles individuality. Kids want to express who they are through their clothing but uniforms force the students to wear specific clothing, individuality is "suppressed," which is said can trigger a rebellion in a few students.

Religious Expression

Religious expression is another thing I found that parents were concerned about, although it is illegal for schools to prohibit religious attire. So, in reality, this isn't a concern at all. If the school doesn't allow your child to attend school while wearing a head covering or a long sleeved undershirt under a polo shirt, then legal action can be taken.

Restricts Freedom of Choice

Many people think that wearing uniforms restrict freedom of choice in children. Which can result in rebelling and talking back to teachers.

Uncomfortable Uniforms

Uniforms don't necessarily fit all body types. For some kids, the fabric form may feel stiff and uncomfortable causing them to scratch or itch, which can interfere with the kids paying attention in class. This can easily be made more comfortable by wearing undershirts or slips.

Lack of Variety

For kids, wearing the same style of clothing every single day can get pretty boring. School aged children can become frustrated with this and hate uniforms because they want to show off their differences.
