The Coquina Inn is set in the National Historic District of Daytona Beach on 544 South Palmetto Avenue. In fact, it is on the National Register of Historic Places. Its name, the Coquina Inn, was inspired by the building materials used to craft the beautiful home. It was built by a local architect, S. H. Gove who owned a rock quarry and designed many of the homes still found in Daytona today. Gove designed the home of coquina limestone, which is a transformation of sand, shell, and coral into rock, from the Tomoka Basin back in 1912. It was originally designed for Dr. Frederick J Walter, M.D. Later in the 1920s, a wealthy bur and hide trader from Trinidad, Colorado, Charles Herbert Nicholas, owned the home. Then in the 1940s the First United Methodist Church purchased it as a home for their ministers. It remained such for almost fifty years. In 1989, the house became an inn.
At present, the Coquina Inn is run by Steve and Rhonda, and, as they like to say, their dog, Godiva, as well. The Coquina Inn provides a relaxing setting amidst beautiful architecture and nicely designed rooms complete with fresh and colorful Floridian artwork. The Inn provides a gazebo, spa, wireless Internet, cable TV, lovely flowers, CD/clock radios, and private bathrooms with embroidered robes. In addition, a five-course breakfast is offered every morning consisting of such items as Starbucks coffee or hot tea, fresh fruit, and mushroom frittatas. Also provided are complimentary beverages and baked sweets, and evening turndown service. Plus, pets are welcome as well.
The Coquina Inn Bed and Breakfast rents four gorgeous rooms full of comfort and cottage charm. First is the stately Jasmine Room, which contains a coquina rock fireplace, a winged back ottoman, mahogany furniture, and a queen canopy bed draped in netting. Next is the romantic Hibiscus Room, which boasts a French door leading to a private balcony, an iron queen canopy bed, and a wicker settee and coffee table. Then, there is the chic Magnolia Room, which has a cute queen size bed and cozy daybed tucked into an alcove that overlooks the spa and garden gazebo. Last, is the nautical Azalea Room, which contains a wrought iron king size bed, a lovely view of the lawn and gazebo, and a beach theme throughout complete with statuettes of ships and sailing.
The Coquina Inn Bed and Breakfast of Daytona Beach, Florida is the perfect place to stay when visiting Daytona Beach. Just minutes of the Atlantic Ocean and the Halifax River, it a quaint and comfy stay. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
