The Corre

Taking Over SmackDown

Spy Radio
After Wade Barrett was betrayed by CM Punk on Raw, he was forced to leave Nexus. Rather than planning revenge against CM Punk, Barrett made his way over to SmackDown. When Barrett arrived to SmackDown he attacked The Big Show. One week later Barrett faced The Big Show one-on-one. Barrett was about to be choke slammed when former Nexus members Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater attacked The Big Show. The Big Show was fighting off all three men, until Ezekiel Jackson made his way to the ring. Jackson stared down The Big Show as he stood on the ring apron. This allowed Barrett, Gabriel, and Slater to gain an upper hand on The Big Show. That did not last long as The Big Show took down all three men. During this time Jackson made his way into the ring. When The Big Show turned around he was met with a vicious close line from Jackson. After being close lined, The Big Show was brutally attacked by all four men until he was knocked unconscious. As The Big Show laid unconscious all four men stood over him with their hands raised.

One week later these four men made their way to the ring again and introduced themselves as The Corre. Barrett informed the SmackDown audience that he made a mistake while leading The Nexus. The Nexus was all about Wade Barrett. Barrett ordered The Nexus to do his biding, if they disobeyed he had no problem removing them from the group. Barrett realized The Nexus should not have been about him. It should have been about the entire group. That is why Barrett formed The Corre with Ezekiel Jackson, Justin Gabriel, and Heath Slater. Barrett guaranteed The Corre would be immensely greater than The Nexus ever was. Before he could finish that statement he was interrupted by SmackDown's General Manager Theodore Long. Long informed the group that he was not going to stand by and let Barrett lead The Corre down a destructive path on SmackDown. Barrett informed Long that he was not the leader of The Corre. The Corre has no leader, each member of the group is an equal.

Each member of the group being an equal appears to be working for The Corre. Slater and Gabriel were able to capture the WWE Tag Team Championships at Elimination Chamber by defeating Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov. Their Championship run was short lived as they were defeated by John Cena and The Miz the following night on Raw. Barrett was not ready to give the Championships up. Which is why he immediately invoked The Corre's rematch clause. Doing so paid off for The Corre as Slater and Gabriel were able to recapture the WWE Tag Team Championships.

After recapturing the WWE Tag Team Championships it looked like The Corre would be getting a new member. It appeared that Kane was going to align himself with The Corre when they offered to help Kane in his match against The Big Show. The Corre made good on their offer as they attacked The Big Show during the match; However, instead of helping The Corre attack The Big Show, Kane attacked The Corre. This lead to a match between Wade Barrett and Kane one week later. The match ended when the rest of The Corre interfered. As Kane was being attacked The Big Show made his way to the ring, chasing The Corre away. This lead to The Corre defending their Tag Team Championships against The Big Show and Kane a few weeks later.

The Big Show and Kane were about to become the new WWE Tag Team Champions, when Gabriel pulled the referee out of the ring. This lead to Slater and Gabriel losing the match but they were able to remain Champions because they lost by disqualification. After the match The Big Show was about to choke slam Gabriel, when Barrett and Jackson made their way to the ring. Jackson took out The Big Show with a vicious close line as Barrett took down Kane on the outside. With Kane down Barrett entered the ring and delivered a 'waste land' to The Big Show. The Corre wanted to make sure The Big Show and Kane never had another opportunity to take the Tag Team Champions from them. To do this they threw Kane into the steel steps. With Kane down they laid the bottom half of the steps on top off him. They took the top half of the steel steps and smashed it against the bottom half that laid on top of Kane. With Kane down The Corre turned their attention to The Big Show. Barrett and Jackson lifted The Big Show and slammed him through the announce table. Now that The Big Show and Kane were out of the picture The Corre could focus on capturing more Championship gold.

The Corre had the opportunity to capture more Championship gold on the March 25th episode of SmackDown. Wade Barrett challenged Kofi Kingston for the Intercontinental Championship. It looked like Kingston was about to win the match when Gabriel distracted the referee. This allowed Slater to hop up on the ring apron and distract Kingston. Kingston was only distracted for a split second. In that split second Barrett was able to hit Kingston with the 'waste land' and become the new Intercontinental Champion. The Championship was not enough for The Corre as Gabriel climbed to the top rope and nailed Kingston with a '450 splash'. Now that The Corre has captured three Championships, will they continue to look out for the best interest of the group by destroying anyone who gets in their path or will the desire to capture more Championship gold be their downfall?
