The Courage to Dare

Donna Cavanagh
For each step ahead, we sometimes fall two behind
Our days are spent hitting walls of frustration
To keep going seems like such a futile effort
To surrender might appear the sweeter temptation

But beware the dubious promise of surrender
That white flag comes at an enormous cost
You might get a few moments of sought after relief
But soon you realize your dreams are lost

You need to be the guardian of what you hold dear
Your dreams should not drown in despair
They should always have the chance to take root and grow
The opportunity to breathe in the open air

We all want to give up at times in our lives
The pressures mount and life becomes hard to bear
But it is our dreams that give us hope to face each day
The will to live and the courage to dare
