The Crab Stop: Orlando's #1 Destination for Garlic & Maryland Style Crabs

Rachelle Lynn Williams
Located near the corner of Kirkman Road and L.B. McLeod, The Crab Stop has become an Orlando legend. For years the restaurant was located in a small shop within a residential neighborhood. The restaurant quickly outgrew its tiny original locale once word spread about the restaurant's delectable menu. One taste of the The Crab Stop's signature Garlic Crab Pot and you will know why the locals just can't get enough. The restaurant is short on atmosphere as the menu is strictly takeout. However, if you are a huge garlic crab fan, you already know that eating them is not a pretty sight for public eyes anyway. The best way to eat the garlic crab pot is at home where you can relax, stretch out and not care about how barbaric you look as you wrestle the perfectly seasoned meat out of the delicate crustaceans.

Their specialty Garlic Crab Pot comes served in a deep dish aluminum pan filled to the brim with cleaned and sectioned blue crab, jumbo shrimp, ears of corn on the cob, and red potatoes. The delicious surf and turf medley is then tossed with a HEALTHY dose of melted butter and spicy (flavorful, not hot unless you request) garlic seasoning. If you are a crab lover this dish is sure to be a heavenly treat.

Along with their famous garlic crabs, the menu includes steamed and seasoned Maryland Style Crabs (specially seasoned Blue Crabs), Snow Crab Clusters, Dungeness Crab, Shrimp and Prawn, Crab cakes, Conch Fritters, and Fried Fish. There is also a selection of non seafood items on the menu, including Louisiana Smoked Sausage, hot, medium, or mild Buffalo Wings, and Hush Puppies. You can get an order of Garlic Crabs from a single serving, which is about half a dozen, for around $18.00. Larger orders can be purchased in combos starting from $22, with prices ranging up to $150 for gigantic orders. All orders from the Crab Stop are served to you cleaned and peeled so that most of the work has already been done. The prices are reasonable, the food is incredible, and the service is prompt. The next time you're Orlando, and you are in the mood for a mouth watering seafood meal, make The Crab Stop your chosen destination.

*The prices quoted are approximations which are current as of 3/16/2009.* Try adding 1/2 dozen Louisiana Smoked Sausage to your Garlic Crab Combo.
* The Crab Stop suggest call ahead orders for fastest service.
* The Crab Stop is located at 3749 S. Kirkman Road, 407-292-6161.

My mom and I ate here once. The crabs were OK like as if they were not cooked right. The seasonings (garlic butter) was tasty of course.

I don't eat seafood either, but this sounds like something my husband would like.
