The Crayola Metallic FX Group

R.A. Riter
In 2001, Crayola released a new package of crayons. They were called Metallic FX crayons, and contained sixteen crayons. The colors were decided by Crayola, but a contest open to United States and Canadian citizens allowed people to mail in their votes for names of each of the colors. These packages are still being sold today.

Of the sixteen colors, all of them have some basic relation to "normal" colors. There are two blues in the group. One of them is called Steel Blue, which is lighter tone blue, while the other, which is called B'Dazzled Blue, is more dark. There are also two variations of purple, too. The lighter version of this is called Cyber Grape and the darker version of purple is called Razzmic Berry. There is another color that is called Blast Off Bronze. This is intended to be bronze, but appears to have a little purple tint to it. Finally, a color that was named Sonic Silver is in this group. This color is supposed to be silver, but appears to have a little dark blue tint to it. Therefore, this color remains a very light silver combined with a dark blue.

There are a collection of reds and oranges, too. Alloy Orange is the most notable, as it is a very deep, strong orange color. Metallic Sunburst is another orange variation, but this color is much more subtle and not as loud. There is a color that was named Bittersweet Shimmer, which appears to be an orange-red combination. This color is not very dark. Along with these is also Big Dip O' Ruby, which is supposed to be a ruby color. This is a pinkish color, but looks a little more red than pink. The other pink variation in this package is called Shimmering Blush, which is more defined and solid pink color.

There are also four variations of green in this package. First, there is Illuminating Emerald, which is the darkest of the four. This is an emerald color like the name suggests. There is also Sheen Green, which is a very vibrant color. This is a lighter green. Third, there is Metallic Seeweed, which appears to be a combination of blue and green. There is also Gold Fusion, which appears to have a bit of a green tint added to the base gold color. The final color in this package is Deep Space Sparkle, which is a lighter-toned black.
