The Creation of Snowman (in Two Parts)

Alden Loveshade

Part One

Tiny starfish, two twin sets,
Caress-fingering, molding-a floating albino ball.
Starfish hands, one cold set smaller, of
Sister sea-fillies finish forming the spherical seat.

Prancing freely, pretty pink scarf-tails skimming,
Crunching crackling white waves with little coral boots,
Then smoothly white-water walking on softly sinking sea,
Sea-winter ponies roll a second ivory orb.

With brunette and blonde seaweed manes falling freely
From two pink squid-head caps, the two fillies lift
With four starfish hands, setting orb to seat.
The smaller, the lemon-drop maned, rolls, by herself, the final ball.

The bigger, still tiny with mane of cocoa,
Bears and sets the white-gold globe on top.
Adding orange carrot nose, two charcoal eyes, yard-sale top hat of black,
With whinnied delight, the winter sea-pony girls pat the snowman done.

Part Two

But why a snow man?
Three totemed snowballs do not man define.
Does "man" cover all like sea's frozen fall,
So that what is not different is "man?"

Yes. Man is the standard thrust like a spear
Through the reins of reason,
Through the heart of harmony,
Through the brain of beauty.

Two tiny young girls already know
That man is the norm.
Two young growing bodies
That years hence may form

Man. Or woMan,
Which means "wife of a man,"
Man with a womb.
God breathed into Adam His breath,

Which means "spirit,"
And man became a living soul.
But Eve, formed from man's rib,
Was flesh, like a beast, and soulless.

Generations of Western thought
Dissolved into mud
Before ruling man handed
To woman her subsidiary soul.

Those two little young girls
With forming girl hands-
What world will they mold
When their young hands grow old?
